READING, Pa. -- Police said a 61-year-old Reading woman beat her 16-year-old granddaughter severely after finding her in bed with another girl.
Joyce Beddell is charged with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said Beddell's granddaughter suffered serious bruises to her legs and buttocks during Thursday's assault with a cane and a belt. The other girl fled from the house before the beating began.
Beddell told police she had done nothing wrong. She told police she should be allowed to discipline her granddaughter as she wishes.
Beddell was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail. It was unclear if she had a lawyer.
Grandma keeping it OLD SCHOOL!
My third grade teacher beat my butt with alarming regularity.
My little home town celebrated her 100th b/day back in 2000, I thought about going to it, I figured I could beat the old hag by then.
Pay back!
go granny!
Back then, when old Dub Johnson wielded one, you did not want to come back for more...or at least you made as darn sure as you could that you did not get caught. LOL!
On her face?
Yeah, if this had been me you could say that my welfare would have been “endangered.”
ROFL. You just never know.
I remember when the hall pass to the bathroom was also the padal you would get whacked with. I also remember that you didn’t want to do something that would warrent the whacking.
Good for Grandma. You will note the article doesn’t mention the age of the young girl’s partner. Guess we can assume the other one was probably not a minor.
Ride’em Grandma!
Honor killing - American style. Exact same base motivation: “My child is my property, to dispose of as I please.”
There ought to be a Community Supper to gather her bail/lawyer $
Maybe homosexuality in some cases can help improve the overall gene pool.
Yep, my immediate thoughts were good luck to the DA prosecuting such a case. What are the chances of finding 12 people who each will vote to convict.
I could never figure out what that song was about. Even now that I've read the lyrics.
Request a jury trial of your PEERS ,Grandma.
My Mamo carried a cane a long time before she needed it.
Hey,
I remember as a first grader when the older students had all of us believing that a teacher had an electric paddle! It kept us straight all year until we wised up. I loved school so never got into any trouble. The way I looked at it was that my dad knew all of the teachers and their families so I knew I would be in trouble big time if I acted up. I did go 11 years without missing a day of school. I had a cousin who went all 12 years without missing a day. We all were a healthy bunch from eating good fresh southern food. No junk added to any of it.
