NEW YORK: John Kerry, who suffered defeat at the hands of President George Bush in last US elections, now harbours aspiration to become Secretary of State if presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama wins the race to the White House in November.
Kerry, who is the third ranking Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, is keen to be nation's top diplomat but does not eye the bigger prize of vice-presidency, Newsweek on Sunday quoted an unidentified source close to him as saying.
That could also well be the case for Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd, the committee's second-ranking Democrat and for Senator Joseph Biden, the committee's chairman, who is frequently mentioned by Democratic insiders as a potential Secretary of State though both might give the V-P post their first priority, the report said.
Kerry is a decorated Vietnam War veteran, but because his Senate experience is in foreign relations rather than military affairs, he's more intrigued by the State Department than the Pentagon, Newsweek said quoting the source. He also speaks fluent French.
Dodd, meanwhile, has recently been showcasing his expertise on Latin America. At an April conference at the US Naval Academy, he laid out a blueprint for a "new relationship" between the United States and the region, the report noted.
Dodd's plan would include efforts to "dramatically improve" relations with Raul Castro's Cuba by lifting a US trade embargo and travel ban.
Me too - because the life of AMERICA as we know it depends on it.
Re John always did dress for success.
Biggest condom I’ve ever seen. Either for an elephant or whale, or some guy who’s got a greatly inflated ego.
Fumbles McStupid as our Secretary of State? What a great idea. NOT!
Under Secretary of State for “Global Test”, I presume.
Great idea for a 'B' movie naturally follows ...
Attack of the Socialist Penguins!
Senator McCain was a handsome young man.
Well, I an a U.S. Army Soldier, and I will be re-enlisting in January, no matter who wins. That said, it would be difficult having Barack Obama as my commander-in-chief. But I will probably be OCONUS for most of the next 4-5 years, so that’s one plus, I guess.
...and the orders of the President of the United States, and...
That could be a tough one to recite in January 2009. But I am a professional, and it's my job to obey the commander-in-chief, whomever that may be...
The first time I read the headline I thought that somebody had linked an article from The Onion to FR.
Plus, it was completely predictable that all the cockroaches in the Rat party will be clamoring for, and receive, positions in any next radical Rat administration (such as Obambi's).
That was a year ago and many who claimed they "can't" vote for the Republican nominee also declined to express any concern about the fact that, if the Rat nominee wins, dozens of radical retreads will show up in positions of great responsibility. So now it is interesting to see threads being posted that people such as John Kerry and Jamie Gorelick of course are likely to be high-powered creeps in Obambi's (possible) administration.
I also am voting against Obama. And I am voting against giving him the chance to put people such as:
John Kerry
John Murtha
Jamie Gorelick
Hillary Clinton
Al Gore
Sandy Berger
Madeleine Albright
Charlie Rangel
Patrick Kennedy
et al.
into positions of power in a Rat administration or on the Supreme Court.
Yep, yagotthatright.
Good one! Joe Biden is an excellent name to add to the list I am keeping-—
See # 71 and # 72.
” think he would make a GREAT Ambassador - to Antarctica”
Hopefully “The Thing” is still alive up there.
Americans want to know: Did any other American service man -- in any war -- earn three PH's without missing a day of duty?
harbours aspiration to become Secretary of StateInstead of Kerry, Obama will choose Ramsey Clark, better fit with the rest of the administration.
I am starting to really think that Obama is not a shoe-in.
Its seems the good VP picks are all saying “NOOOOO THANKKS!”
If he was such a shoe in, wouldn’t they want to hitch their wagon to him? It seems that no one wants to be known as this generations Geraldine Ferraro.
Mister Heinz-Kerry.....in the State Department as a ‘top diplomat’?!?!?!?!?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
