Texas evangelical Republicans reluctantly back McCain

For religious conservatives at the Texas Republican Convention, even the song list at Friday's prayer rally suggested dark days ahead for the GOP.

"We're going to support McCain," he said with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "He may not have been all of our first choice, but he is our choice."

"I'm going to support McCain and try to help people see the reality of the total picture and how dangerous Barack Obama is," said state Sen. Dan Patrick, a conservative talk-radio host with a strong evangelical following. "There is no other choice."

Am I supposed to be impressed?

I don’t care who else endorses the Socialist. I have a mind of my own.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)—Despite media speculation to the contrary, three new polls show that evangelicals, including Southern Baptist pastors, support Republican John McCain over Democrat Barack Obama by wide margins. ****************************

And you're point is?

I am not now, nor have I ever been a Baptist or a Pastor.

And I am NOT voting for Obama nor am I voting for MacCain.

When he betrays you worse than Judas, I hope the bitterness you feel is assuaged by his having the magic "R" after his name.

Hang in there JoJo. It would appear that you have the McCain supporters squarely in your sites and are certainly onto their game plan. They are so transparent.

Heh heh heh. Neither am I. But I did visit one once or twice over the past 55-60 years. Heck, even the Baptists can't even decide amongst themselves who is more right on their own religion or beliefs.

....(whilst getting in a totally gratuitous slur against my country (and your closest ally in the GWOT)....

What's this? You're acting as if this is a new thread, with a potentially new audience sympathethic to you? We've already hashed this out elsewhere. It would be nice if you were intellectually honest about such.

But since you've again brought it up, I'll remind you not to stick your chest out too much. The Soviets were also one of our Allies in WW2. Personally, pound for pound - (oops, I made a funny) -  Poland gets my utmost respect for being an Ally, considering their size and  from whence they came these last 70 years or so.

Londonistan, in case you didn't know, is pretty much a tiny island with Russia and China to it's East, and the Middle East kinda sorta to it's South to Southwest(?), so it's in their best interest to be our bestest buddy in the whole wide world, so spare us the horn tooting.

And since you don't like my ridiculing your Country* for it's opening the floodgates to Muslims, and therefore making kneepads standard issue for the rest of the populace, might I suggest you have me hauled before one of your actual bona fide hate crime tribunals?

*If I didn't know better, I'd almost think you were reacting to a meddling foreigner.

Actually, I’m having a good time with them. Might as well go out laughing.

Uh, don’t tell anybody, okay?

Heads Up.

"J.C. Watts: Don't count my vote for McCain - Former Republican congressional leader blasts party"

I usually don't ping people but considering how this thtread has ben gong I thought some of you might be interested to know that Christian conservative stalwart J.C. Watts has chosen to not endorse candidate John McCain at this point (nor likely in the future) and took a swipe at the GOP for taking both blacks for granted and evangelical Christians.

Thanks for the ping to that. The author confuses J.C. Watts with Armstrong Williams whom he also quotes and I’m not sure if he just stated the wrong name in the wrong place or mis-attributed some quotes as well. J.C. is probably right about the GOP ignoring blacks and evangelicals. But I hope he isn’t really thinking of voting for Obama.

I hope not either. I'd prefer he didn't vote for either one. But having said that I'll go on to say that todays new and improved Republican party is doing major damage to the black conservative block and it's long time and faithful christian conservative base this election cycle. If one does much reading they will see these sentiments are being expressed in more and more corners of the internet.

It's too bad that the RNC won't come to its senses and dump this old party hack of a candidate at its convention before its too late. I know they won't but they won't be able to say they were not warned by its base.

Thanks for the ping....If only it could happen! Still, I don’t think McCain can beat Obama. If not, the good news is, imo, the party will have reason to unite...something that will not happen if McCain wins.

Thanks for the ping. From the article:

Is Watts serious about Obama?

"Well, no, I didn't say that," he told Sean Hannity on his national radio show today. "What I said in the article was that I was a free agent. No one should assume that J.C. Watts should vote one way."

That restores a bit of faith in Watts, at least for me. Maybe this needs it's own thread...

It would be a feather in the cap of the conservative movement for Watts to leave the GOP, go to a third party and endorse either Barr or Baldwin.

We need more good folks like J.C. watts and other high profile Christian conservatives to go on the record as not supporting John McCain or Hussein Osama Obama. To me when I see liberal minded Christians (is that an oxymoron?) professing to back McCain I raise a skeptical eyebrow at them.

You’re right. After years of trying to convince people of the value of conservatism the GOP is now stabbing them all in the back.

It’s not an oxymoron, just look at Huckabee. I have no doubt in his profession of faith, but politically he is a statist, just like most of the leadership in the GOP.

The term “conservative” has been so mishapen as of late, I try not to use it much in a political context. Because you have social-cons like Huckabee on one side, and paleocons like Chuck Baldwin on the complete opposite side. While both are conservative Christians, their politics couldn’t be further apart.

So 4 times now I’ve asked you the question and you refuse to answer it - really, this is now just for the lurkers - I know you won’t answer a simple, yet crucial question.

I’ll try a fifth time however - don’t you think Obama’s worse for America than McCain ?

I'm quoting you for posterity, as a textbook example of McCainiac stupidity and obsession.

I saw that. He’s right about the GOP ignoring the base.

Just in the last week McCain talked about reigning in CEO’s, which is a job for the shareholders, he said the oil companies should share the profits in varying ways, (channeling Clinton!), and wants to have a Town Hall meeting with la Raza.

Nope, Watts is a mere trifle when there’s liberals to be pandered to.

But we must vote for McCain anyway! “Battered wives” unite!
