BIG Earthquake in Japan Just Now! Predicted in Advance by Two Minutes (Live)
Japanese news; direct experience ^ | 14 June 2008 | AmericanInTokyo

Posted on 06/13/2008 4:58:12 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

We just had a very strong earthquake which fiercely rocked and rolled the main Island of Honshu in Japan.

TV broke with news on all channels IN ADVANCE OF EARTHQUAKE, warning people to "get ready". 8:43 a.m. local time Saturday (just about 10 minutes ago). 7:43 p.m. Friday Eastern Time.

Then, sure enough, the long, rolling shaking began, and increased in intensity. I estimate the shaking to have gone on for at least 45 seconds. It hit here at 8:45 a.m. It literally gave us 2 minutes to prepare. I have never experienced an advance earthquake warning.

The epicenter is considerably far from Tokyo, way up in northwest Japan. So I am sure there is little or no damage in Tokyo, but I can imagine damage and/or loss of life near the epicenter. It may well have been a 7.5. We will see.

Now, now . . .

Be aware . . .

casting aspersions against the Papal encyclicals of the Pope of the unHoly order of Naysayers can get one lots of . . . hostile smug and haughty diatribes.

Perhaps you should don your hazmat suit . . . or at least a face plate to protect from slobbery epithets?

LOL.

i said to a family member the minute NHK TV broke in with the pre-warning, "OK, here it comes, let's get ready for it"....and sure enough it came in like a train from a distance, and then the full freight train went through the living room...just as expected. it is very weird knowing in advance...but yes, helpful. we took measures. within seconds they had computer graphics up, location, depth, intensity, tsunami warnings, live TV remote cameras from NHK TV bureaus in the region (webcams) streaming the shaking and some aftershocks...but announcers were precise, exact, calm and authoritative.

Japan.

Earthquakes, crowds and high prices aside, you gotta love it. And it's TECHNOLOGY.

The Japanese People are a people who generally learn lessons. The whole kaizen mentality, down to a ridiculously anal retentive level at times.

Kobe 1995 was their big teacher, their wake up call, to get things in order, no doubt.

It was a Saturday around noon and I was at work. A woman pulled up in a Mini-Van and got out just as it hit and I looked across Broadway and the power poles were going one way and the wires were going the other. Glass was shattering in in buildings and traffic came to a near stop. I looked back at the woman just as she was knocked down in the parking lot.

We didn't loose any windows in our building but I can't remember if the power went out?

INDEED.

And some of that mentality still lingers in Taiwan.

Digital signs like this in Japan immediately tell folks to get off the highways, that they cannot proceed due to earthquakes. This was taken today just shortly after the shake.

But to answer your question, the most violent one was a 5.8 just about under Eureka and very shallow. It dumped me out of bed about 6AM.

Yes, I remember that one. We had nothing happen at home from the big three, but that one actually knocked our slow cooker off the top of the refrigerator.

Actually, I have to admit that my wife was trying to wake me up when that one hit, and I didn't really wake up until it was pretty much over. Guess I'm a sound sleeper... :-P

Thanks. Fukushima sure looks like it would have been affected. But the Japanese are so used to earthquakes, they have a pretty good grasp on how to react. Also there’s that civility thing.

Every culture has it’s strong points, and some of the characteristics you alluded to make the Japanese very formidable in certain ways.

Yankees have their characteristics, as do Germans, Indians and Australians. The Japanese learn lessons and take them to heart on a pretty uniform scale. That can be very effective at times.

The earthquake in Alaska in ‘64 lasted 4-5 MINUTES!!!
I know that a 30 second earthquake is too long but 4-5 minutes!!!

It could have been an 8.0 and up, but the fact that they had two minutes warning time is incredible.
