BIG Earthquake in Japan Just Now! Predicted in Advance by Two Minutes (Live)

We just had a very strong earthquake which fiercely rocked and rolled the main Island of Honshu in Japan.
TV broke with news on all channels IN ADVANCE OF EARTHQUAKE, warning people to "get ready". 8:43 a.m. local time Saturday (just about 10 minutes ago). 7:43 p.m. Friday Eastern Time.
Then, sure enough, the long, rolling shaking began, and increased in intensity. I estimate the shaking to have gone on for at least 45 seconds. It hit here at 8:45 a.m. It literally gave us 2 minutes to prepare. I have never experienced an advance earthquake warning.
The epicenter is considerably far from Tokyo, way up in northwest Japan. So I am sure there is little or no damage in Tokyo, but I can imagine damage and/or loss of life near the epicenter. It may well have been a 7.5. We will see.

Strategerist wrote: "It wasn’t predicted; it was far enough away from Tokyo for the warnings to be transmitted faster than the seismic waves."
Strategerist, instead of your existing as a resident naysayer, why don't you provide proof along with your nonsense such as a link to a news article disputing AmericanInTokyo's first hand experience, or any research which supports your silly contrarian blurts.
For example, USGS site shows theoretical P-wave travel time as reaching Tokyo at 54 seconds for this particular earthquake.
That would still be one minute six seconds after AmericanInTokyo had heard the prediction broadcast in his local news.

than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Glad you're ok and kudos on your reporting.
What's this warning system called? Or is it just reports from the epicenter that were telegraphed ahead of the seismic wave?
I was in a 6.7 shaker, three miles from epicenter in 1983. Happened just before 0600 while I was still in bed. No way to get out of bed and get out side. It was like the bed scene in The Exorcist.

Three in less than 24 hours. I think they were 7.1 - 6.5 - 6.8. I was living just south of FResno when the Tehachapi hit in the dark of the night in July 52. I got to Eureka just in time for the 7+ in Dec 54 plus a few more over the years.
But to answer your question, the most violent one was a 5.8 just about under Eureka and very shallow. It dumped me out of bed about 6AM. It was a few years after the 92 swarm. My wife and daughter were out walking and they thought the world was ending because of all the transformers and wires arching.

What kind of place were you in when the quake struck? Did its roaches (every building and house in the country has them) swarm just before it started?
I had this happen once while at work (by myself, on a weekend) In the Mori #17 Building in Tokyo.
To: tubebender
the ‘92 swarm. “swarm” is a good way to describe it. whew! However!, I did learn how cool it was to be outside experiencing the quake— the trees looked like giant pompoms.

I hope you are right and that the guffaws are just as strong at the end of the month.
I just know that in the spiritual realm, the opposing forces are winding up more and more intensely, tighter and tighter . . . and that there’s a limit or maximum peak to that curve . . .
At some point such things WILL BE tumbling out in the temporal landscape in quite a list of ways.
I still think it would be fun, if there could be any fun then, to see Strategerist’s jaw and face at that time.
When, God only knows.
As far as I can tell.

Here's praying that loss of life is minimized - undoubtedly helped by the advance warning.
Here's also hoping that people don't start writing "tremblor" again instead of "temblor", but that's a minor issue...

It is really getting horrible..... a bus loaded with 17 people went into a resevoir. they are trying to get them out. it is submerged (I believe). knowing rural Japan in that portion of the country, many of them are bound to be senior citizens.....

This is horrible, reading about this, American in Tokyo.
My upstairs neighbors for 6 years are from Japan, best neighbors I could ask for. They are from Tokyo but may have family in that EQ region.
