Rev. Michael Pfleger still on forced hiatus after mocking Clinton

With Rev. Michael Pfleger on a compulsory hiatus, St. Sabina Catholic Church parishioners carried on their beleaguered leader's fiery brand of activism at a gun-control demonstration Thursday in the wake of the death of the 26th Chicago Public Schools student killed this school year.

St. Sabina has organized a protest at the James R. Thompson Center in downtown Chicago for each of the previous six slain Chicago Public Schools students, and Pfleger attended all of them.

But the demonstration Thursday for 16-year-old Ignacio Montano, who was gunned down Monday, went on without him.

"What we've been taught by him is to stand for justice," said Randall Blakey, director of ministry at St. Sabina. "We have a responsibility to do that whether the pastor is with us or not."

In the shade of City Hall and the other government buildings near the plaza in front of the Thompson Center, about 30 church members chanted, held up signs and passed out bright fliers explaining their support for stricter gun laws.

Pfleger's name was on the fliers, and he was quoted in a news release about the event. But parishioners said they organized the hourlong demonstration themselves.

Pfleger—who became the subject of national debate since the surfacing of a May 25 guest sermon at Trinity United Church of Christ in which he mocked Sen. Hillary Clinton—was ordered June 3 by Cardinal Francis George to take two weeks leave. Sen. Barack Obama, battered politically by months of controversy about his longtime membership in Trinity, cut ties with the church shortly after a video of Pfleger spread on the Internet.

Many St. Sabina members have criticized the cardinal's punishment of their pastor. At Thursday's demonstration, several mentioned their disappointment that Pfleger wasn't allowed to...

These people would be better off adopting christian values and then taking it to these monsters that they are raising.

To the St. Sabina Catholic Church parishioners: Okay, you lead by example. Allow the police unlimited access to your homes to confiscate all guns they find and then to plant signs outside stating that the home is now GUN FREE.

Any takers?

No? That’s what I thought.

This “Chicago Public Schools student” tag is a set-up. These shootings had nothing to do with the schools. You might as well say “kids with no fathers” or “future voters for Obama” and be closer to the truth, rather than connect them with the Chicago Public School System.

I agree. If they didn’t have guns, they’d find some other way of killing each other. St Sabina’s (or at any rate, its congregation) is raising a bunch of thugs with a grudge who occasionally bump into other thugs with a grudge. The weapon is not the cause of it. It’s their amorality, resentment and viciousness.

These people are murdering each other, and somehow that is whitey’s fault.

These are the people who criticize the police for not solving the murders of young black men while simultaneously encouraging “the community” not to cooperate with the police.

They seem to see no contradiction in all these simultaneously held positions.

I’m willing to bet that there’s already severe gun bans in Chicago. Anyone from Illinois like to post about the state of their 2nd amendment freedoms?

The poverty pimps and welfare thugs of the demorat party have succeeded in creating a society of people that blame everyone else for their problems.
Watching the groups of young blacks on youtube attack a lone white has become commonplace - yet the media refuses to show the evil that is going on. Until this country is ready to deal with the real problem of black poverty, education and morals then we are only going to see more of the blame everyone else game.

I think it’s time for conservatives to have their own protests and demonstrations.

Gang wars in Chicago are nothing new, anybody remember Capone? What's new is that a segment of the community has found an issue to use in their race baiting, extortion (reparations) dreams.

They need to organize a demonstration in favor of Thug Control. They ought to demand that Mayor Daley flood the city's high crime neighborhoods with hundreds of police employing the aggressive “stop and frisk” tactics Guiliani used in NYC.
