No one who offers one in sincerity would even consider such a thing. And anyone who didn’t offer it in sincerity, well it never mattered what they did anyway. It’s not who deserves it or who we believe deserves it—(because we humans are so good at determining those things) it’s that all of us need it. Possessing compassion doesn’t need to be so difficult.

Dude, journalists write. I've known some. Talking heads are celebrities who read. From a teleprompter. And I'm not dissing your (and everybody else's) imaginery friend Tim who died today. I wouldn't think of doing that.

I heard a recent report that the normal life span should be 100 years old. Its something for people to think about.I'd rather think about what I did with my life, however many years I spent on this earth.
Death comes to us all. No matter what you do to extend your life, you go home when you are called.

Wow, how shocking! How sad. I really did admire him, though I hadn't considered it until just now. Kinda puts a lump in my throat. Makes me suddenly remember I had a "birth date" and I will have a "death date," too. I'm in my 40's & the 50's aren't looking all that far away. Gulp...
RIP, Mr. Timothy Russert.

Just unbelievable.
I am so proud at times like this to be a Freepr..to honor the good character of this man.
When we have people we don’t like..even the ones we can’t stand, we never..trash them or say ugly things if they die or are sick.

"Interestingly, Frank Reynolds, another admired news anchor, was 59 when he died in 1983."
That was another big loss for journalism. Reynolds was close to being a (gasp) conservative.

It’s respect, plain and simple. Try it sometime.
Most of us didn’t agree with his politics, but he didn’t agree with ours, either.
Fortunately for ALL of us, God is interested in US, not our politics.

Not sure how to evaluate how devout someone is, but I can say that a few years ago I attended Sunday Mass at the Catholic church in Nantucket, a few steps down from the Hub. Tim Russert was not only at Mass that Sunday, but he was also one of the men passing the collection basket. That day he seemed like a pretty regular guy.

Its respect, plain and simple Sorry Just Lori. I'm not the Kumbaya-Type who respects every person in the world regardless of what they've done.
I'm particular about character.
To: LesbianThespianGymnasticMidget; mylife
Tim Russert was the main reason to watch Meet the Press and his other interview show on Saturdays was the only reason to watch NBC. He really was a tough and excellent interviewer and a decent man which was a helluva balancing act in his business.
Prayers for Tim and his family.

“Closet Conservative?? “
More likely he was just a patriot and good Christian. Not making his charity public. A sad loss for all of us.
