George W Bush meets Pope amid claims he might convert to Catholicism

George W Bush and Pope Benedict XVI have held an intimate meeting in Rome as rumours mounted in Italy that the president may follow in Tony Blair's footsteps and convert to Catholicism.

The two men spoke for half an hour in the 12th century Tower of St John, a private area in the Vatican gardens which is used by the pope for private reflection.

The usual protocol for heads-of-state is a meeting in the pope's library in the Apostolic Palace, but a spokesman for the Vatican said Benedict wanted to reward Mr Bush for the "warmth" of his reception at the White House earlier this year.

I actually had that fantasy this morning when I saw the picture of Bush and Benedict XVI, but told myself it was “not likely.”

Time will tell. Indeed, I’d welcome him!

If I understand correctly, an annulment is when the person has to own up to the Church and his or her former spouse that he or she was not truly mature enough.

The simple way is if no relations were had, but the more complicated way is to say here’s how I can demonstrate why I wasn’t mature enough for marriage.

And the former spouse gets a say in it.

It’s painful and these days, it’s somewhat more difficult than it was 20 years ago. That may have been because American dioceses were giving annulments more freely than dioceses in other countries.

John Ellis Bush aka JEB, he married a Mexican woman and converted to Catholicism and I think he became a 1st-degree Knight.

Being a Baptist I would have a few problems with mass. But there is nothing wrong with being peaceful with other Christians. I just wwould not compromise my beliefs by participating but would sit quietly and respectfully in the pew.

There's nothing at all to indicate that the President is leaning that way.

Some members of the British press called it right regarding Blair.Don't know if any were connected to the Telegraph however.

the president may follow in Tony Blair's footsteps and convert to Catholicism.

I sure hope not!

That's almost as bad as Mormonism.

I’ve read that in 99% of fatal heart attacks...the person was totally lacking in magnesium.

This news would appear to have not made it to Harvard Medical School yet.My cardiologist,who's a senior staff member at two of Harvard's teaching hospitals,has never mentioned a word to me about magnesium.

Interesting, but is a lot of conjecture. Bush is a very good and decent man. I have been grateful to him for his leadership in the WOT, even though in other ways he has made some errors in judgement. HIs Supreme Court judges were excellent choices, OMHO.

Whether he converts to Catholicism will be a matter of wait and see. I wonder why such a subject is in the news. It’s a private affair and is no one’s business. And, if he does, it will certainy be after he leaves the White House.

I do wish the best for him and Laura in their future retirement. I’ll bet they are looking forward to some rest after the savage attacks in the news media.

Barb is an Episcopalion, she will not let him convert.

He doesn't need to convert to enjoy a nice visit with the pope.

I wonder if the clot was related to DVT; Deep Vein Thrombosis? It’s a condition that develops when one is stationary for a long time, like on long airplane flights. The blood pools in the lower extremities and can form clots. When you get up and start moving around again, the clot can come loose and cause death. Tim had just returned from Italy on Thursday. He’d left his wife and their son there, to return to work, and they had to learn of his death while there and start that long sad trip home on Friday. His son had recently graduated from Boston College, and they’d gone to Italy on a family trip to celebrate. So very sad.

What kind of magnesium do you take? I saw some supplements in Wal-Mart, but hubby said they were the wrong kind, according to what he'd read.

I asked my cardiologist about magnesium, but I have a wiring problem that occasionally causes Atrial fibrillation, and he said that magnesium is better indicated for folks who have problems with Ventricular fibrillation. It's my understanding that V-Fib is the condition that's most associated with sudden death from heart attacks.

His doc said it could’ve contributed, but overriding was his asymptomatic heart disease.

~~~
http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2008/06/13/tim-russert-one-of-a-kind-one-of-300000/
Russert’s doctor Michael Newman said the tough-questioning but congenial host of NBC’s “Meet the Press” had been under treatment for asymptomatic coronary disease, but that it was under control with medication. He was carrying excess weight, Newman observed, but he got regular exercise and he performed well on an exercise stress test in April.
None of that prevented a cholesterol-laden plaque from rupturing while he was doing voiceovers Friday morning for this Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press. The resulting clot, an autopsy indicated, apparently caused his heart to go into ventricular fibrillation which led to cardiac arrest. The autopsy also showed he had an enlarged heart–a manifestation of coronary disease.
~~~

God rest his soul and comfort his grieving family and friends.

Just regular over-the-counter magnesium. It’s SO important.
Here’s the heart info. The whole site is very worthwhile and important.
