Burger King helped me beat addiction, Robert Downey Jr. says

Robert Downey Jr. has publicly thanked Burger King for helping him overcome his problems with addiction. The fast food chain, he says, also helped to resurrect his career.

The fast food epiphany happened in 2003 when the "Iron Man" star was driving a car piled with "tons of f---ing dope," Downey Jr. told Britain's Empire magazine. The actor decided to pull over for a burger and everything changed.

"I have to thank Burger King," he said. "It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen." Downey Jr. says he then tossed all of his drugs into the ocean, deciding right then and there to clean up his act.

Downey Jr. hints that a fateful moment in "Iron Man," when his character Tony Stark requests a cheeseburger from Burger King after being released from his captors, is a reference to his own experiences.

Yeah, I can’t stand their fries either. I think it’s that batter/coating they have on them - yuck!

I do like their burgers, though.

The BK Whopper is the best burger in the business along with the Hardees Thickburger.

BKs chicken sandwiches are also tops in the fast food business.

I remember they had a nationwide search taste test to pick the best fries and they decided on what they serve now which is what I have called Sand Sticks since at least 1996.

Total crap.

I thought some of those early “King” commercials were gay—especially the “Wake up with the King” one where the King showed up in some guy’s bed and offers him a breakfast sandwich. Maybe the King showed up uninvited in Downey’s car. That’s enough to scare anyone straight.

Downey was also great in “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang”. I really hope he has turned a corner.

"It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen."

Downey's comment makes NO SENSE.. I like Burger King, and I never think "something really bad is going to happen" when I go there.

He’s also not a liberal after spending time in prison. He hasn’t quite said WHAT he is, but as long as it’s not a typical Hollywood liberal, then it’s good with me.

They hired him to clean the bathrooms?

There was an article on FR recently saying Robert is a conservative. So now I like him.

That Burger King king though is kind of creepy.

The only thing I eat from either fast food joint is Mick D's fries. I can't stand their burgers and BK’s fries went from horrible to disgusting when they changed oils. I think they call it fast food because of how fast it goes from plate to the toilet.
