someone should vet him. As in get a copy of his birth certificate to prove he is who he says he is, and that he meets the legal requirements to hold the office of POTUS.

-- Shakespeare, Hamlet III iv. "Hoist" was in Shakespeare's time the past participles of a verb "to hoise", which meant what "to hoist" does now: to lift. A petard (see under "peter out" for the etymology) was an explosive charge detonated by a slowly burning fuse. If the petard went off prematurely, then the sapper (military engineer; Shakespeare's "enginer") who planted it would be hurled into the air by the explosion. (Compare "up" in "to blow up".) A modern rendition might be: "It's fun to see the engineer blown up with his own bomb."

Any citizen of the US could sue to get a copy as they can prove that you have an interest in it and would suffer damage if Obama isn’t who he says he is.

Well, they could trying suing Obama to get a copy released but states have their own privacy rules for birth certificates, all the more tighter since id theft became common. In California, for example, you need to have permission of the person, or be the parent or the child of the person on the certificate, or be the law firm handling the person’s estate in probate. It’s a pretty narrow right these days. I can’t even get the death certificate for the second wife of a decedent because our client, the third wife, is no blood relation.

FINAL UPDATE: It is rather striking that the honest-to-God Obama defense on this, when finally asked a pretty tough question from a reporter is, “these aren’t folks who are working for me.”
Let me get this straight: The team searching for a running mate for Barack Obama doesn’t work for Barack Obama. Uh... okay. Who, pray tell, do they work for?
