Jim Geraghty takes a look at longstanding blog buzz over Barack Obamas birth certificate, which the campaign refused to release to the St. Petersburg Times in April:
We tried to obtain a copy of Obamas birth certificate, but his campaign would not release it and the state of Hawaii does not make such records public.
Has anyone seen it? Why shouldnt the record be in the public domain for presidential candidates?
Geraghty walks through various rumors now circulating in the wake of the Obama campaigns birth certificate blackout, including this one:
Rumor Three: His mother did not want to name him after his father, and his birth certificate says Barry. Perhaps the most plausible of the rumors, as Obama was known by that name through much of his childhood and young adulthood. If true, this would spur a new round of When Barry Became Barack stories a minor headache for the campaign, but hardly a major scandal.
Lest the Obama campaign start whining about this issue being an unfair distraction, John McCain underwent intense scrutiny of his citizenship status because of his birth in the Panama Canal zone, leading the Senate to declare him a natural-born citizen in April.
But, if there is just one US citizen parent for the baby, then the rules that I quoted above for those born outside the United States apply and though the baby may become a "naturalized" citizen, they are not "natural (or native) born".
The only time this makes a difference is in running for President.
But those are the rules Obama and his mom had to abide by.
.
YOU NAILED IT Jeff!
Wasn't that before percussion caps were invented? So Aaron actually chipped a flint in his butt.
Since his mother was an American citizen(born in Kansas) it doesn't matter where he was born.
The most likely scenario is that the birth certificate has his name different than the one we know now
Barack Hussein Obama, born in Hawaii, mother was a US citizen, her father served in WWII
John McCain was born out of the country, Panama Canal Zone, to American born parents, while his father was serving his country. McCain’s grandfather and father were Admirals in the United States Navy
Those are fact. There are many interesting ‘stories’ about the Obama family, like...
Barack’s father, on a scholarship, a JFK program 1961, gaving him chance to leave Kenya and attend U of HI.
Married Barack’s mother and had a (unknown) wife and son in Kenya.
Barack’s father also graduated from Harvard before returning to Kenya.
Barack spent a few years in Indonesia before returning, 10 years old, to HI and graduated from a college prep school, Punahou. Then on to Columbia U.
A person born in Hawaii on or after August 12, 1898, and before April 30, 1900, is declared to be a citizen of the United States as of April 30, 1900. A person born in Hawaii on or after April 30, 1900, is a citizen of the United States at birth. A person who was a citizen of the Republic of Hawaii on August 12, 1898, is declared to be a citizen of the United States as of April 30, 1900.
Obama's mother had him when she was 18 and therefore did not meet that criteria if he was born outside the US.
I really don't want another islander like Hamilton (big government is good concept) in any kind of position in the government today

I was very general. But unbeknownst to me when I stated that, someone posted post 122 - see it. I had a baby outside the USA and he met all the requirements to be a US citizen at birth and could run for Prez, though I do pray he doesn’t (LOL).
But post 122 may be the constitutional requirements that perhaps Barack’s mother did not meet? (I don’t know what her age was nor how long she’d been out of the country.)
That is a given and is public knowledge, his father was still married to his first wife when he married Obama's mother, therefore their marriage would not be valid.
Obama Sr moved to Nairobi, where he took a correspondence course to complete his schooling, studying at night while working as an office clerk by day. He wrote to dozens of US universities. The University of Hawaii replied, offering him a scholarship. Leaving behind his infant son, Roy, and his young wife, Kezia, who was pregnant with their daughter, Auma, he flew to America.Being the university's first African student did not discourage him. He graduated top of his economics class. He married a white student from Kansas, Ann Dunham, and they had a son, who he gave his full name: Barack Hussein Obama.
Obama Sr continued his studies at Harvard, but his marriage soon faltered. When he returned to Nairobi a few years later it was with a different white American woman, Ruth. Together, they had two children. But Obama Sr was still seeing his first wife, Kezia, on the side, and she bore him two more sons. Later, as ethnic rivalries hampered his career as a senior government official - the Obamas are Luo, while the government was largely Kikuyu-dominated - and as he increasingly turned to drink, he had an eighth child by another Kenyan woman.
Why?
That is killer stuff
His mother’s passport records need to be looked at.
I remember making sure my first son could be President, though he was born 16 years ago to only one American outside of the country. But I meet all of the qualifications under those rules. So I believe my son could be President one day (though I hope he doesn’t run!).
Obama’s mom might have been too young, or possibly didn’t spend the requisite time within the USA?
Well, he must be passing for black then because his race is white.
It did slow the Hamiltonians down.

Aha! Whoa, he needs to produce that BC.
Jeff, by 1961 Hawaii was our 50th State. Infact August 21, 1959 marks the date of statehood. and that is disregarding other facts of citizenship. or is it disgarding??
In Texan Hold-em, we call that 'going all in, on a 2 and a 7, unsuited'.
It would be a non-issue for the same reason that McCain's birth in the Panama Canal Zone is a non-issue: birth in a territory then under jurisdiction of the United States.
