This is the horror of the 1920’s being relived again. Tell me where in the Constitution does this idiot find the right of the the government to force corporate shareholders to approve/disapprove CEO Compensation?

I can't believe this.

Regulating the pay of CEOs, nets you nothing.

All you get is an inferior grade of CEO, who may not provide the best management available. And the corporation that is failing, does not yield the tax revenue of one that is expanding and growing.

The board of directors, given a free hand, will drum out the inferior CEO pretty quickly, if the corporate goals are not being met. The high rate of remuneration is an effort to attract the best there is.

MISLEADING HEADLINE ALERT!!!! Read the article. He is not proposing that CEO pay be regulated by the government, only that it receive shareholder approval rather than approval by just the board of directors. This is a meaningless change that is worth it if it buys us lower corporate taxes.

Why don’t you read the article? The article says he wants shareholders to approve severance packages, not the govt.

The headline is misleading. Stockholder approval of CEO salaries is not government regulation, and I don't have much problem with it. Basically everything McCain is talking about here sounds reasonable.

Why stop at CEO’s? How about professional athletes, rock stars and movie stars? Slippery slope.
