It has been a refrain during the exhausting battle for the Democratic presidential nomination that once Hillary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama emerged as the party's choice, we could finally dispense with the personality battles and get down to nitty-gritty policy differences. Indeed, now that Obama seems to have the position locked up, he and presumptive Republican nominee John McCain will have plenty to argue about. But some might be surprised at the breadth of issues on which they largely agree.
On McCain's side, this is understandable. With a Republican president experiencing some of the worst approval ratings ever, it's no shock that the party opted for an unusually centrist candidate. Yet Obama, too, represents a break from Democratic orthodoxy and is reaching out to the middle. This could indicate that on certain policies, something like a national consensus is developing. It at least signals a lessening of the partisan divide that has blocked progress on important changes.
Here are the biggest plots of common ground:
* National security. Surprisingly, given McCain's reputation as a hawk and Obama's as a peacenik, they don't differ much in their ideas about how best to protect the country. Both want to increase the size of the military and provide more training and equipment. Both oppose the use of torture as an interrogation technique, and both would like to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
* Immigration. Lately, McCain has been trying to shore up conservative support by backing away from bills he cosponsored in 2005 and 2006, which would create a guest worker program and provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants; now he says he'd focus on securing the border first. Yet that doesn't stop him from touting his immigration reforms when visiting states like California,

What a crock of BS
Nice try.
Yep, that jumped out at me too.
There, fixed it.
Hey LA times, Just say no to crack!
They are the same in the sense that NEITHER possess any true leadership abilities.
But, there are other vital areas where they are not.
Barack Hussein Obama is the apex of the hate-America, domestic enemy in this country. His election as president would be the greatest coup any enemy has ever scored against this country and could easily lead to the worst, horrific disaster in our nation's history.
Obama is always pandering to the crowd, let the LA slimes call him on it ;)
Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs
http://missilethreat.com/archives/id.7086/detail.asp
How does one take this as wanting to increase the size of the military:
“I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems. I will institute an independent Defense Priorities Board to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary defense spending ... I will set a goal for a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal: I will not develop nuclear weapons.”
Also, wasn’t there a recent successful test with the “unproven” missle defense system?
Beat me to it :).
Are they the same?
No.
One is white the other black.
One is tall the other short.
One is a communist the other is not.
A vote for EITHER is a vote for more of the same poison killing our Republic. They are just a choice between dosages.
- he is "reasonable" (for a Republican) on pro-choice issues
- he wants to "protect" the environment
- he wants to stick it to "big pharma"
- he cut "big money" out of politics
- "he is not a racist" (regarding immigration) (lol)
- he opposes Bush administration policies on "torture" and gitmo
- he is willing to accommodate "reasonable" gun controls
- he will not "threaten" PRECIOUS social security
- he will make sure the "rich pay their fair share of taxes"
- he has supported moderate and rejected "far-right" justices (gang of fourteen)
- war hero
- wants to regulate corporate renumeration (CEO pay)
- is a maverick Republican
It is surprisingly easy to get even life-long Democrats receptive to the notion of voting for McCain. My great aunt's sticking points are:
- he supports the war in Iraq
- he does not support nationalized health-care
- he supports NAFTA (she lives in Michigan)
- MOST IMPORTANT: He is a "Republican"
Obama and McCain, the same?
While neither man has an qualifications to be President at least one McCain belives in America, while the other Obama believes in Government and himself.
Hahahahahahaha!
The author of that Obama puff should put away their crack pipe. This YouTube video explaisnexactly what Obama's "defense" aka surrender policy is all about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE
Amongst other things, Obama promises to leave Iraq at once(exact opposite of McCain's position), something that will lead to a conflagration engulfing the entire Mideast.
This communist will also:
Cut investments in “unproven” missile defense systems(read ALL missile defense systems, given that every defense system is unproven till its fully tested and developed).
Not weaponize space.
Slow our development of future combat systems
Stop development of new nuclear weapons by America(even as Iran , north Korea and other crazies step up theirs).
Etc etc.
Of course if we don't have any ABM capability it gives the haloed one an acceptable explanation when he submits in the face of future nuclear blackmail. "Hey don't blame me. The system was never proven. Who's to say it would work now?"
Of course there are some who will say that this future nightmare is the haloed one's plan and desire.Who's to say those folks are wrong?
