Charleston Mercury - Our Endorsements
Published: Wednesday, June 4, 2008 7:07 PM EDT
On June 10, voters go to primary polling places of their choice. We have strong feelings about some races and will advise accordingly.
[snip]
As noted, we do have some vigorous opinions about other incumbents, so welcome to our political quiz to answer these questions: What local elected official supported the following or is characterized as follows:
1) Congressman James Clyburns proposed ten-mile bridge[snip]
2) The most recent Farm Bill [snip]
3) ...voted only eight percent of the time for anti-pork legislation in 2007.
As you know, the answer is Henry Brown; we urge readers to send Congressman Brown a message about bringing home the bacon and vote for Katherine Jenerette or Paul Norris in the primary. Anyone watching the national political trends and studying patterns of incumbents knows that me-too Republicans will not cut it any longer. Of Browns two GOP opponents, Katherine Jenerette is the better experienced, having worked for Henry Brown as a field operative and served in the U.S. Army. She is married and has four children. Mrs. Jenerette has a smile made for political talk shows and as a history professor, she is grounded in perspective that will serve her well.
In summary, we reference Congressman Browns own postcard in which it claims that he is: Working to reform government. Nothing could be further from the truth; send the Republican workhorse out to pasture.
Regardless of how you vote, go and pull the lever; [snip], which many of us either take for granted or fail to exercise the franchise. Absentee ballots are there if you have trouble getting around, so excuses are for wimps; just go the polls as a proud American.

When you're getting older like I am it's hard to pass up the few compliments you hear! And not many Army Paratroopers get this kind of compliment. Must have been one of my better days!
Thanks for the kind words and the hard questions for my campaign.
Katherine
YOU GO GIRL!!
er....I’d move there just to vote for you.
Congratulations, FReeper! Now, do us proud!
WOW! Take it from a really old lady, you are gorgeous! I can’t believe you’ve had time to do all that, children and all. Now you are one lady I would vote for for president. You go girl!
WOW!!
The older I get the more anti-incumbent I become. What a mess this bunch has made of everything. If I was a South Carolina voter, this young lady wound have my vote in a heart-beat.
I wouldn’t vote for you... priorities are mixed up.
History Prof—Wow!
Go For It.
Keep America FREE and BEAUTIFUL
Katherine, I'm talking to everyone I know for you. Best of Luck.
I’ve lived in Charleston for over 20 years and I’ve never seen or heard of this paper.
Ugh, they also endorsed Lindsey Graham, although they did mention that he is an irritating little twit.
I have a really hard time understanding why this paper would publish this:
Although a few of his votes or comments may have irritated us, Lindsey Graham has voted well overall, and as a close friend of the man who could easily be the next president, Senator Graham is in an enviable position to influence public policy more than most second term senators. An energetic lawmaker, Senator Graham will serve South Carolinians well in a second term.Lindsey, you have my solemn promise to do all I can next Tues to see to it that you're job hunting next Jan.
Senator Graham in an enviable position? Only if you're interested in the further destruction of our precious country.
