WASHINGTON, D.C. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Acting Director Michael J. Sullivan today apologized to Congressman Bill Sali and confirmed the agency reported inconsistent versions and details of a program giving agents engraved Leatherman tool kits.

Damn I hate the F Troop.
You got that right!
I don’t like ATF, but I don’t get the issue with the Leatherman tools.
I don’t care if they get Leatherman tools every Christmas. I do care that they think ordinary people are the enemy.
Give them their little incentives. Shut down the agency, give these guys a transfer to the Bureau of Prisons or something, rent out their office space to something productive like maybe the postal workers union, but as far as I’m concerned the Leatherman is no big deal.
The Leatherman tool was to be the reward (read: incentive) they got for trampling on the rights of citizens.
No big deal?
Well, you're right there. That's not the problem. The freebie could have been a blender. The problem is that the agency promotes the inscription, and the inscription promotes extra-constitutional excess.
What you said.
It's not about the Leatherman tool, it's about what they wanted engraved on the Leatherman tool.
At my office bonuses and trinkets are given out too. However they are purchased with the company owner's money.
These trinkets are given out purchased with MY money to an agency that I despise.
You really cannot see a problem?
Well, as far as I'm concerned, they can stick the damn Leatherman up their collective..., uh, third point of contact.
Notwithstanding the fact that the damn things were bought with my, I say again, my tax money, the bunch of damn jack-booted thug idiots furthered the insult by using my, I say again, my tax money to have them engraved with an egregious and fascist-appearing reminder to always assume that anyone, I say again, anyone should first be considered a candidate for asset forfeiture, rather than encouraging a "how can I help this citizen?" attitude.
ATF can bite me. They are the single most useless bunch of governmental do-nothings in existence, today.
(Well, maybe a few demonrat senators fall into that category, too, but that's another, different rant.)
And any damn ATF agent that lurks on this forum can also bite me.
I know they lurk here.
Reading the article I didn't pick up on the "Always Think Forfeiture" being engraved on the tool.
If thats the case, thats grotesque. I take back what I said about it not being a big deal. I stand by what I said about shutting down the agency.
“Dear Congressman, sorry we got caught. love mike”
It was a joke, right? Naturally they are heroes who stand for truth, justice and the American way
All I can say is they better bring a Swiss Army Knife as well if they want my property...........:o)
Agreed.
How long would it take for this behavior to stop if:
a) the man running the agency wasn’t thoroughly anti-gun, and/or
b) the President picked up the phone and instructed the agency to stop trampling on the constitutional rights of citizens?
The fact that (b) has not happened is explained in an earlier reply in this thread...
ping
That is correct.
I remember reading some outrage about this, when the Federal procurement request came to light, apparently back in March of this year. There are links to those *.gov pages in these articles, but they’ve been pulled by the Feds.
