ROME - Better insulation at home, less use of the car and even giving up an electric toothbrush can help people in rich nations halve emissions of greenhouse gases, a UN report said on Thursday.
"Adopting a climate-friendly lifestyle needn't require drastic changes or major sacrifices," according to the 202-page UN Environment Programme (UNEP) book entitled "Kick the CO2 Habit: the UN Guide to Climate Neutrality". Issued to mark the UN's annual World Environment Day on June 5, it outlines ways for people to combat global warming with measures such as packing lighter suitcases when flying or going jogging in a park rather than on an electric treadmill.
World emissions of greenhouse gases blamed by the UN Climate Panel for heating the globe total about 4.5 tonnes per person for all of the world's 6.7 billion population.
Most efforts to slow climate change focus on the role of governments -- such as in rules for emissions from cars or power plants or building codes to help avert projected impacts such as droughts, heat waves, more powerful storms or rising seas.

That was my question too...the UN uses a heck of a lot more energy than my battery powered toothbrush..and my toothbrush does a lot more good.

"Dear Boss, Sorry I will not be returning to work anytime soon since I am avoiding a carbon binge. "Sounds like a plan. I say we follow the cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys and work 35 or less hours a week and take Fridays off forever.
Of course, I'm on salary . . . .

Among examples and their savings of carbon dioxide (CO2): -- Use a wind-up alarm clock rather than an electric one: 48 grams CO2 a day
-- Dry clothes on a washing line rather than in a tumble dryer: 2.3 kg each load.
Buy a property from Tony Rezko?
I'll hang my clothing on the line as soon I see Barbra Streisand doing it. I heard a liberal type remark to his daughter the other day as he passed a vending machine that the lighted Pepsi display it featured was "destroying the planet".

I'll hang my clothing on the line as soon I see Barbra Streisand doing it. To which any "good liberal" would reply: It's not what we do individually, it's what we do politically.

Why not take the UN Building off the NYC power grid? Bingo!
Funny that the private home of their arch-nemesis, GWB, is largely off the grid (passive HVAC).

This information brought to you by the 6 THOUSAND plus representatives at this conference. And I'm sure they all jogged there from their villas in Spain. No private jets involved, no siree.

Closing the UN might also be a good idea. We could eliminate both their carbon based energy consumption and also reduce a phenomenal amount of hot air.

Most of the UN has already given up deodorant as well... With or without deodorant the UN stinks.

Yeah, I won't be lessening my use of the car (because it gets me where I need to go and I love driving it) or giving up my electric toothbrush (because it does a great job and it's easy to use).
Sacrifice and self-denial are part of the global warming religion, with the impact ranging from inconvenience to major health risk. There is no evidence whatsoever that such actions will affect the global climate in any way. Absolutely mindless - might as well whip my back bloody and put on a hair shirt in hopes of appeasing the global warming god.
To: PROCON
The "global warming environmentalist" is a notion which can only exist in a top-tier culture wallowing in sheer luxury and self-righteousness. The incredible level of energy expenditure required just to get these narcissists together - not only the direct expenditure, but the whole global culture creating & supporting that infrastructure - hugely dwarfs their "tips". Indeed, the first thing to do is take the UN building off the grid, and stop flying the occupants thereto.

I already have two electric toothbrushes. One for home and one for my vacation home. I own a high performance coupe and an SUV. I listen to music with my 400 watt per channel McIntosh audio system while watching a 52 inch flatscreen. And, I barbeque meat often. Just doing my part.

Get rid of grass blowers.
It is a job that Americans won’t do because it isn’t worth doing.
It is the equivalent of hiding the lima beans under the mashed potatoes and declaring them “gone”.
It doesn’t “clean up” lawn trimmings or leaves or trash and debris. It blows it into someone else’s yard or the street.
Use a rake or a broom instead. THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB.
Makes a lot less noise polution too and doesn’t waste gasoline.
