DOCTORS in Japan who carried out surgery on a man to remove a tumour had good news and bad news for him.

The good news was he did not have cancer.

The bad news: The growth that had been causing him pain was in fact a 25-year-old surgical towel.

The patient had been carrying the cloth since 1983, when surgeons left it in him after a minor operation to treat an ulcer, a spokesman for the hospital said.

Well, I’d clearly hate to be a patient undergoing some procedure, and in the middle of things, have the surgeon throw in the towel...

LOL! As I was waiting for the page to load, I ran through maybe half-a-dozen scenarios as to how something like that could happen. What does it say about me that “botched surgery” wasn’t one of them....

Maybe he won't sue. Sounds like the poor guy at least had a good hearty laugh about the matter!

"Hey honey, we just got a bill in the mail, it's for a surgical towel, and 25 years of interest for non-payment!"

EXTREME TANGENT WARNING — IN THREE... TWO... ONE....

It’s funny you say Kool & the Gang in this connection. I saw them in concert once, after Bruce Hornsby opened. Hornsby was very low-key, and (I thought) just so-so. Then he finished and left the stage... and the roadies came out, setting down these STACKS of white cloth towels.

A few minutes later, I found out why. Dang! what a terrific show. Guys must work off ten pounds in sweat alone.

Actually, the doc was a disgruntled Steelers fan, annoyed that his dynasty was over.
