Many in the great state of Texas have a lot to say about a proposed network of toll roads and railway lines known as the Trans-Texas Corridor.
The Texas Department of Transportation received more than 27,000 public comments during a three-month comment period on a proposed corridor project called the TTC-69, said TxDOT spokesman Mark Cross.
Transportation officials had 47 public hearings in February and March and accepted written comments through April 18 on the environmental and social impact of the corridor.
Comments ranged from flat-out opposition to the corridor to suggestions about how to lessen its impact, Cross told Land Line on Tuesday, June 3.
We have to provide the comments with our own environmental analysis to the Federal Highway Administration so they too can evaluate all of those comments, Cross said. They base their decision on whether or not to approve the environmental analysis of the project based on all of that evaluation the evaluation of our work and the evaluation of the comments received.
The TTC-69 leg of the proposed corridor would create a new Interstate 69 from the Brownsville area in South Texas to Texarkana, AR, and/or the Louisiana border near Stonewall, LA.

Texas Transportation Commission Chairwoman Deirdre Delisi, appointed to the position in April by Gov. Rick Perry, made a statement in a press release Thursday, May 29, concerning the states tolling principles. She said the commission and TxDOT continue to take public input seriously.
The commissions action (Thursday) reflects the comments we have received from Texas drivers, legislators and members of citizen advisory committees, Delisi stated.

Gr-r-r-r ... don't get me started on TxDOT. These clowns could give the Feds lessons on how to pi$$ off money. They go thru all the motions that are required by law, public meetings etc, and then do exactly what they want to do. The latest here in the San Antonio area is toll roads. Lots of our roads should have more lanes, but these are no plans to install more lanes unless they are tolled lanes! TxDOT says they are out of money but spends millions on media programs that try to sway public opinion to accepting toll roads, millions that could be filing potholes and widening main roads. We don't need toll roads; we need roads that have bridges and limited access so traffic is not stopped every mile by a traffic light! And, as there are no elected positions in TxDOT, there is damn little ability to apply pressure to see things the public’s way. Gr-r-r-r ...

Who claims that they have? TXDOT? They're not even on the same planet as far as following anything required by any law. They are so out of compliance with the Feds for one thing, it's not even funny. TXDOT's concept of an EIS (Evironmental Impact Statement) are public meetings - not a dime spent on research for data as required by law. That stupidity is about to unwind right in their faces.

Actually, this has been in planning for years, courtesy of Hardberger and crew. The big problem with their plan is that there is less traffic on the major thoroughfares due to high gas prices, hence- no need for toll lanes.

That stupidity is about to unwind right in their faces.I don't think so. Bush and his cronies want the same thing Gov. Goodhair want. It doesn't matter what is good for Texas.

I don't think so.
The heck it isn't. TXDOT got hit at the end of May with a formal request to develop a Supplemental Draft Impact Statement since what they claim for a EIS is not even close to compliance and is functionally worthless. Their choices are to either drop this phony EIS crap they've been doing, start over and do it right by law, or get a smackdown at the Federal level.
