Cardinal Removes Rev. Pfleger From St. Sabina Last Edited: Tuesday, 03 Jun 2008, 3:48 PM CDT Created: Tuesday, 03 Jun 2008, 3:39 PM CDT
The firebrand pastor of St. Sabina parish was effectively removed from his duties there Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
In the statement, Cardinal Francis George says he asked the Rev. Michael Pfleger, 59, to take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties. The statement said Pfleger does not believe this to be the right step at this time.
While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Churchs regulations for all Catholic priests, George said.

The priest is an embarrassment to himself and all he has come in contact with, IMO. His impression of Jeremiah Wright was disgusting!!!!

That didn’t take long. Too bad they don’t apply the same criteria to child molestors. And this goes for all faiths...not just the RCs.

Is this for good, or just a couple of weeks. Article is murky.

I must now take my hat off to Cardinal George. He has shown himself to be more than I thought he was. Nevertheless, as I understand the rules here, Father Pflager might not have to submit to the Cardinal’s demand to leave. But for now let’s enjoy this victory for the good guys.

About time for this sorry excuse for a priest...this wolf in sheeps clothing.
I hope they extend the temporary status, and then give him a permanent station in Somalia so he can bond with his muslim brothers there.

Archdiocese of Chicago
STATEMENT OF FRANCIS CARDINAL GEORGE, O.M.I.,
ARCHBISHOP OF CHICAGO
June 3, 2008
To put recent events in some perspective, I have asked Father Michael Pfleger, Pastor of St. Sabinas Parish, to step back from his obligations there and take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties, effective today. Fr. Pfleger does not believe this to be the right step at this time. While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Churchs regulations for all Catholic priests. I hope that this period will also be a time away from the public spotlight and for rest and attention to family concerns.
I hope also that the life of St. Sabinas parish may continue in uninterrupted fashion. Fr. William Vanecko, Pastor of St. Kilians parish, will be temporary administrator of St. Sabinas and will assure the full complement of ministerial services during this period. I ask the members of St. Sabinas parish to cooperate with him and to keep him and Fr. Pfleger in their prayers. They are in mine.

Thanks be to God that Cardinal George sum up the courage with the help of the Holy Spirit to remove this disgraceful priest. Plus what helped was pressure from Rome.

They should make him go serve in beautiful downtown Harare. He could even help Mugsy and the gang incite against white farmers and business owners.

Wonder what the odds are he resigns from the Catholic Church, opens his own Church, and tries to woo his old congregation back. Or signs on with Trinity UCC.

"I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Churchs regulations for all Catholic priests..."What tha'...........? A two week time out to "reflect on his recent statements and actions"?
Pfleger must be right. No one in the church apparently has any family jewels. He should be drop-kicked out of the priesthood.
