WASHINGTON - The Senate began what is expected to be a weeklong, contentious debate Monday over legislation to combat global warming by mandatory reductions in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

Senators voted 74-14 to proceed to the bill, but immediately it became clear Republican opponents were not going to make it easy. A request by Democrats to begin considering substantive changes in the bill was blocked by GOP opponents until Wednesday at the earliest.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada promised a thorough debate that will probably last through the week, if not longer. He said it's clear that "global warming is real" and Congress must act.

They could cut emissions by 99% by simply not debating at all.

Just think how much energy could be saved by shutting down the Senate and House for, say a whole year.

Al Gore Junior should be brought before Congress to testify under oath as to the threat and science of man made global warming.

I think the first thing the Senate buffoons need to “debate” is what we’re going to call their anti-capitalist/anti-democracy scam. What’s it going to be? “Global warming” or “climate change?”

Senate votes to begin global warming debate

The pack of swindling, conniving horse-thieves should have done that last winter.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., a chief architect of the 500-page bill, said at a news conference the urgency of taking action against climate change cannot be overstated, declaring, "It's about our children, about their children, and about the planet we've inherited."

President Bush said at a White House event that the measure amounted to "a huge spending bill fueled by tax increases" and that it "would impose roughly $6 trillion in new costs on the American economy."

The WSJ described it as the "largest expansion of the federal government since FDR's New Deal, complete with the creation of a brand new, unelected bureaucracy..."

Yeah, but according to Yahoo news it’s just an innocent little bill.

God...

Its getting to the point where I just want to put a gun to my head and blow my brains out...

Is the American public this gullible? Punishing the public and the economy like this.... with un-proven technologies and un-realistic goals... All in a election year no less.

God help us if the democrats get the majority.. and i think they will

... it became clear Republican opponents were not going to make it easy.

Let's see if the Republican opponents have a pair. I hope so.

They got away with calling the war against Communist infiltration into the US “a Red Scare”, how about branding this the Global Warming Scare?

Scientists are reporting that the Internet is causing global warning.

Al Gore is reported to have emailed himself: “You betrayed us.”

This debate will likely be similar to what we saw recently at the U.N. None of the 35,000 scientists who signed the petition questioning global warming will be allowed to attend, but I suspect Al Gore wont have any trouble getting in.

” He said it’s clear that “global warming is real” and Congress must act.”

June 3 and the high for today is predicted to be 61. Last week, the predictions for this week said today would be in the 70s and clear. It is very dark, rained overnight and will rain all week, or so they say.

Rain the first three weeks of June is normal. These temperatures are definitely on the cool side.

A poll on the weather, com site last month asked opinions n GW. The winner was:”I don’t believe it is happening.”

I am very pessimistic about this coming winter. I think many foks are going to so squeezed that their choice will be between heating their homes and driving to work and between paying the electric bill and eating.

While the polls show support for McCain, the EC predictions are showing a donk landslide. I hope it is the usual politics by DBM and not accurate.
