Three Israeli Arabs from Lod were arrested by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and Israel Police after they allegedly planned to kidnap and kill an Israeli soldier and use him as a bargaining chip for the release of Palestinian security prisoners, the Shin Bet announced Monday.
The three, Amir Nafar, 20, an Islamic Studies student at the University of Jordan, Aiman Kadura, 26, and Yassin Hinawi, 19, were arrested in the past two months. During their interrogation, the Shin bet discovered that the idea to perpetrate the attack was formulated by the three in the largest mosque in Lod, where they held secret meetings.
They planned to document the kidnapping on camera, and kill and bury the soldier in a secret hiding place. Last December, during the Eid al-Adha holiday, Nafar invited his two accomplices to an urgent meeting at the mosque during which he laid out his support for the Jihad idea and said that every Muslim was obligated to fulfill the commandment to wage Jihad against the infidels.
After his friends voiced their support for Jihad, Nafar offered them to join him in the kidnapping and killing of a soldier.
All three are members of the Islamic Movement, which is led by Sheik Raad Salah.
During the interrogation, Kadura said that he had already begun to save money for the attack.
On Monday, the three were indicted in the Petah Tikva District Court.
Nafar and Kadura were indicted on charges of aiding an enemy in a time of war and conspiring to commit a crime, while Hinawai was indicted on a charge of concealing a crime.
