“Afghan, US forces kill 55 Taliban after ambush”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “US and Afghan forces fought a major battle with the Taliban and “inflicted heavy casualties” on the force just miles from the Pakistani border on June 20, Combined Joint Task Force - 101 reported.

More than 55 Taliban fighters, including three senior leaders, were reported killed, 25 were wounded and three were captured by a combined air and ground counterattack after a Taliban force ambushed a patrol in Paktika province. “Patrols in the ambush area continue to report additional enemy casualties,” the US military reported.”

ISF seize weapon caches, detain 2
Multi-National Division – Center

AMARAH, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces, assisted by Coalition forces, seized three caches and detained two criminals during “Operation Sign of Peace” in Amarah, Iraq June 20.

Soldiers from the 1st Iraqi Army Division discovered a cache containing 40 PKC weapons, a rocket propelled grenade scope, a cellular phone and improvised explosive device wires during clearing operations.

IA soldiers discovered a second cache in Hay al Mu’allimin Muhalla consisting of mortars, RPGs and other IED making materials.

Soldiers from 39th Brigade, 10th IA Div. detained two suspected members of a criminal cell and recovered 10 explosively formed projectiles, two claymore mines and one heavy machine gun.

“Operation Sign of Peace” is an Iraqi led, planned and executed operation in Amarah to enforce the rule of law, reduce criminal safe havens and disrupt weapons smuggling.

Coalition forces are providing technical assistance, advice and support to this operation upon request from the Government of Iraq.

“ISF continue to conduct operations against criminal elements in order to restore security and stability to the people of Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Michael Minor, deputy commander, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division “Today is another fine example of these Soldiers and their dedication to unify their country.”
