Again the above is an alleged quote from a rumored video featuring Michelle Obama.

Obama has enemies. Some of them freelance, being sympathetic with his political opponents, but not part of any organization. The most prevalent speculation, compatible with "the event is fiction," is that Hillary! supporters are running a whisper campaign. Saying the tape was found by and is being held by Republicans is a way to play "clean hands."

And as you note, the rumor is not "beyond all credibility." All "good rumors" (meaning the false ones that draw suckers) have a whiff of truth about them.

Agreed! In Halperin’s book, “The Way to Win”, these tactics of smearing your opponent with rumors are documented right out of the Clinton play book. It could have been predicted and the amazing thing is how well the Obama team has responded. This primary season is a heavy weight fight, no doubt.

Is the Michelle Obama Tape a Matter of Enunciation?

A really interesting theory about the alleged Michelle Obama tape, which could explain a lot, from the liberal blog Booman Tribune. Michelle, offering a speech critical of President Bush, offers a refrain of "why'd he" — the words "why did he" mushed together — that sounds like "whitey" on the tape.

Apparently, if the tape ever comes to light, her words will sound something like:

Whitey cut folks off Medicaid?
Whitey let New Orleans drown?
Whitey do nothing about Jena?
Whitey put us in Iraq for no reason?

...when the intended message is,

Why'd he cut folks off Medicaid?
Why'd he let New Orleans drown?
Why'd he do nothing about Jena?
Why'd he put us in Iraq for no reason?

Or so we will be told. The irony is, if the latter interpretation is accurate, we still have a potential first lady accusing her husband's predecessor of "letting" New Orleans drown.

In all seriousness, I’ve known several black graduates of prestigious universities who showed no evidence of smarts.
