Senior advisers to Senator Hillary Clinton have prepared the ground for her to abandon her presidential ambitions within days rather than disputing the Democratic nomination all the way to the party convention in August.
Senator Barack Obama is expected to be able to declare himself the party's candidate against Senator John McCain as early as tomorrow, when South Dakota and Montana become the final states to hold their primaries. Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said the nomination would be decided this week: "We don't want to go to the convention, have a big fight at the convention, and lose the presidency."
A dispute over whether and how to seat delegates from Michigan and Florida was resolved on Saturday by giving each delegate only half a vote as a penalty for those states defying the party by holding early primaries.
The Clinton camp was unhappy with the decision, which raised the number of delegates needed for victory from 2,025 to 2,118, but showed little appetite to challenge.
Just after the polls close, Mr Obama, who could be accompanied by senior Democratic Party figures, is to hold a huge rally in St Paul, Minnesota, at the venue where Mr McCain is due to accept the Republican nomination in September.
His aides were working furiously yesterday to amass the two dozen or so "super-delegates" party officials whose convention votes are not tied to the primaries he would need to ensure that the South Dakota and Montana results give him a majority.

What this means is the Osama campaign is offering jobs to the high rankers in the Clinton campaign.
It's one thing to get through a soft-ball interview with O'Reilly, but it's quite another for Jeff Sessions to vaporize her image making her look like an idiot under review for confirmation.
Hillary is smart enough to wait it out. If something is going to drop, in the media, that would damage Obamessiah's electability that badly, then she is smart enough to just keep waiting him out. Trust me, if this rumor is true, then she knows it's out there. She'll wait.
Jeff Session could turn her into a blathering idiot, (not that hard to do) and if the Judicial Committee votes down party line, she goes before the full Senate. 9 dems, 8 pubbie
In 2008 the Senate will be 60 plus Dem majority.
They could make a ham sandwich a SCOTUS if they wanted to, highly unlikely, but you never know with these ass clowns
The Clintons are more likely to want to completely destroy the Dem party than to politely lose
Yup...Hillary Clinton cares about one thing and one thing only...Hillary Clinton.
She sure sounded like it in PR tonight. I think she may be po'ed enough at the racists and sexists in her party to do it. Although if she really wanted to win she would throw her sexist playboy husband under the bus.
...slim and none...

Hillary can “suspend” her open campaigning and retain her delegates. She will give speeches. She will have the slime team working 24 hours a day to destroy Obama. She will be quietly working on Superdelegates through either intimidation or bribery.

“I will win” Doesn’t translate into “I concede”. Just more bullshit to entertain during the never-ending Clinton soap opera.
Okay, we know who the Democratic nominee is going to be, let’s go to work and make sure this leftist doesn’t get in the White House.
Hillary concede?
I don’t think so. I predict she may, at most, partially suspend her campaign and wait out the real “post primary” vetting of the mixed race candidate. She and her team have, as all of us have, been made aware of the “Michelle” tape(s) and no doubt lots more “evidence”.
Hillary won’t take the VP spot. She is the Dims “Lady in Waiting” right thru the general election and beyond if necessary. What a “comeback kid” she will be if/when this happens. (jmho)
Until I hear it, from her very lips on nationwide television, then and only then will I believe it./Just Asking - seoul62........
