I have seen the “Bodies” exhibit; when it came to Atlanta. While I found it to be a bit gruesome, it WAS a valuable visual lesson to any person in or studying to get into the healthcare field.

The “Body Worlds” exhibit was here in Charlotte. It drew a lot of paying customers, although not us. Obviously many people are interested.

People who have an actual need to study cadavers (medical students, etc.) have been dissecting and studying them for centuries AND the origins of them is not uncertain.

At least the way the chinese practice socialized medicine, it’s always easy to get an organ that is a good match to your tissue type, and very fresh...

While I am vehemently opposed to abortion, I am not opposed to capital punishment. I am also unconcerned about what will be done with my body when I am through using it. It’s a Christian thing.

Perhaps the objections have more to do with the dehumanizing of people who see (or seek) this "art" than the dehumanizing of the bodies.

“It’s just your husk, son ... your mortal husk.”

That said, “Man is a creature composed of body and soul, made to the image and likeness of God.” Your body is not just the residence for your soul, but an equal part of your humanity. Debasing the body while you’re alive, or after you’re dead, disrespects God’s creation.

You’ll die, and you’ll rot, but that doesn’t mean it’s appropriate to treat the human body, living or dead, as if it’s an eggplant. Your body will be resurrected, to eternal life or eternal damnation, but the eggplant is just compost.

Well said, TC. This whole macabré P.T. Barnum sideshow is just weird.

Don’t forget automobile tires in your ‘Made in China’ list. My wife’s brand new car lost a tire to debris on the roadway (while she was on a trip) and she handed her phone to the guy at the tire place so I could talk to him. The guy insisted the brand he recommended was not ‘Made in China’. I said, ‘Oh yes it is, and I’m not buying it’. I forced him to go upstairs to their inventory and look at the actual tire and he says ‘Oh, what do you know, it IS made in China’.

But Christian theologians and some Jewish authorities are saying that the displays are inherently offensive to human dignity.

As do I.

Thank you. I’m glad the show has moved on from this area. We didn’t like seeing the advertising billboards.

I wonder if the proponents of these exhibits--at least the ones that argue for the necessity of human cadavers over sophisticated, lifelike models--would treat the subject of sex education in the same manner. Somehow I doubt it.

Were this geared towards current and prospective medical/health care professionals, and done in a more dignified manner, I think there might be fewer objections to it.

Maybe there’s a cost advantage over using artificial models. And there’s certainly a durability advantage over standard cadavers! I can see some utility for the process in scientific work, particularly in preserving the appearance of diseased organs, for example.

I expect the producers of the displays would show corpses having sex if they thought they could get away with it. There’s nothing too low these days.

Sickness sells. It seems the only thing taboo is taboos.

I tried to have my taboos removed, but the doctor said there would be too much scarring. ;)
