Barack Obama Press Avail
Aberdeen, South Dakota
May 31, 2008
Q: On the church decision do you feel this will put the issue behind you politically or do you feel it will persist and having done this now, do you wish you had done it several months ago?
BO: Well, you know, after the National Press Club episode, as I said, I had a long conversation with Michelle and also had a long conversation with Reverend Moss. We prayed on it and you know, my interest has never been to try to politicize this or put the church in a position where is subject to the same rigors and demands of a presidential campaign. My suspicion at that time, and Michelle, I think, shared this concern, was that it was going to be very difficult to continue our membership there so long as I was running for president. The recent episode with Father Pfleger I think just reinforced that view that we don't want to have to answer for everything thats stated in a church. On the other hand, we also don't want a church subjected to the scrutiny that a presidential campaign legitimately undergoes. I mean, thats I don't want Reverend Moss to have to look over his shoulder and see that his sermon vets or if its potentially problematic for my campaign or will attract the fury of a cable program. And so, I have no idea how it will impact my presidential campaign. But I know it's the right thing to do for the church and for our family.
Q: How will that not be different when you join another church?

I saw this yesterday. Obama said he needed to leave Trinity in order to relieve the church of scrutiny during his presidential campaign. They are looking for a new church. A reporter asked something like, Well, won’t your new church have the same problem? Obama stumbled and stammered on the question. He was terrible during the speech. He looked like a complete bafoon.
He may “read” articulate but he sure as hell AIN'T articulate.
Guilty.
The church wasn’t the problem, Obama’s support of Black Liberation Theology IS the problem. He is a racist. He supports and encourages racists. He should put Bobby Byrd (D-KKK) on the ticket to balance the hate.
They edited out all the uh, uh, uh, umm, ... uh, uh ...
No doubt! It was pitiful.
Absolutely right. And I would not be surprised if Michelle is more into that church than he is. Another Democrat with an overly ambitious wife!
Well, let's see. He could join an actual Christian church which teaches the Gospel and joins together to worship God, rather than one which is based on "black liberation theology" and screams "hate whitey!" and "G-damn America!" from the pulpit. For example, have we ever heard anything negative about Pres. Bush's church? Or VP Cheney's?
Hey Asshat! The stop using the pulpit as a Political stump!
He is a complete bafoon!
He is a buffoon
At least he is “clean”
Yes, a buffoon.
To paraphrase “Father” Pfluglehorn: “He didn’t expect to be challenged on his background, his associations, his organizations; he felt entitled to it. No questions asked.”
Clean AND drug free for how many weeks now?
Which they never do for Republicans, that is for sure.
The King of "Uhmm" and the Queen of "Urrr"
If Obama was doing the same gesture with his left hand, I’d assume that he was pandering for the Asian vote too.
