Just to be clear, folks, it's a novel

The Dominion of Canada. It was nice while it lasted:

"Nineteen Regular Army divisions, one dozen divisions of the Army National Guard, plus the Second and Fourth Marine Divisions, rolled across the border just before dawn on 11 May, 2020.

"Despite the gallant resistance put up by the main elements of the Canadian Forces, notably the Royal 22nd and Twelfth Armored, which died in defense of Quebec City, the Royal Canadian Regiment and Royal Canadian Dragoons, shattered in the forlorn defense of Ottawa, and the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and Lord Strathcona's Horse, butchered in detail in a hopeless defense of the long western border, Canada — rather the thin strip of well-populated area that roughly paralleled the border with the United States — fell quickly."

Oh, dear. Only 12 years of "Canadian values" to go. If you want to put in for your hip replacement now, they may just get to you before the tanks roll. It's going to be mighty expensive once the Princess Margaret Hospital is renamed for whichever Halliburton subsidiary winds up running it. The author of the above passage, Tom Kratman, adds...

His big case is coming up real soon, so let's hope all goes well. If not (The HRC has a 100% conviction rate), it will be a big loss in the war on terror.

Help may be on the way.

Mr. Kratman's novel is called Caliphate, and is set more or less a century hence in a Muslim Europe at war with an imperial America.

This is a SHAMELESS plug, you can buy an electronic copy of this book on the baen.com webscription web site. I am not associated with this other than as a subscriber, I like being able to choose between electrons and carbon-sequestering books.

Maybe it’s a novel, but nobody can say we haven’t been warned.

Yuh beat me by 1’32” AND included the exact URL and cover. Why didn’t you include the cost of $6.00 or the webscription April 2008 of 6 books for $15.00 as well?

I dunno - a Muslim army coming in from the south is a bit of a stretch. A maddened, scimitar-waving Islamic cavalry roaring over the border south into the United States with toques under their turbans, though, I could see that. They’ve never forgiven us for Gretzky. ;-)

I am reading correctly that it would take 32 divisions to beat 6 regiments. Even if it is the muzzies, that’s a pretty one-sided affair.

And no Marine or Marine unit would EVER fight as muzzies.

I have such a hard time reading a book on-screen that I haven’t read many of the books that I’ve paid to download, let alone the free ones. It’s got to be psychological - I read plenty here. There’s just something about holding it in my hands, I guess. This is on my list - Kratman and Ringo’s “Watch On the Rhine” is outstanding.

I think whoever came up with the idea of a Ruso-Canadian war is probably more accurate. The idea that Canada and Russia will go to war over oil and coal shale is probably very likely by 2030.

Been to Canada several times and never have seen a highway cop.

But, their Fish and Wildlife guys always have a highway checkpoint to see if you have too many fish.

And they will take your boat, RV, etc. if you are over the limit.
