Ali Larijani, second from right, the newly elected parliament speaker, with Saeed Jalili, a top nuclear negotiator, right, during the opening ceremony of Iran's new parliament in Tehran on Tuesday.

This is me, holding my breath, expecting change in Iran’s policies. This is me, turning blue. Someone call 911.

Why does this sound like a case of “Here’s the new boss... same as the old boss?”

The new speaker, Ali Larijani, who resigned as the country's nuclear negotiator in October over differences with Ahmadinejad, is a conservative and an ardent advocate of the Iranian nuclear program but is seen as more pragmatic in his approach and perhaps willing to engage in diplomacy with the West.

This reminds me of all the tea leaf reading the media used to do when the Kremlin was changing power. They were always convinced that the new guy was somehow different. Once, it was a big deal that one of the gerontocrats liked jazz.

The problem in Iran is the system. Not the leader. As long as radical mullahs hold all political power, no acceptable leader can possibly arise. Things will change if the people rise up and kill the mullahs or if there's a war. Until then, it'll be tweedle dum and tweedle dee.

In other words, this Iranian Muslim Nazi is smarter then the one in power already.

Bad news for the US, especially if Hussein Obama wins. The “moderates” are worse then the “extremists” because they can lie to the infidels better.
