As for the Volvo strike in Dublin, VA. I live in Pulaski County and had to drive past those pathetic whiners every morning. They had a COFFIN next to the entrance of the plant with a sign above it that read, “scabs here” and an arrow pointing to the coffin. LOVELY bunch of overweight, overdrugged, big mouthed loosers!!! We blogged like crazy on a local site and it still amazes me how pompus they were. Acted as if Volvo owed them all golden spoons for their mouths. Shouted all this solidarity crap...but now 1/2 of them are getting laid off. SERVES THEM RIGHT!!
I think the reason Dublin, VA was used as an example is because our economy here sucks. Sucks bad. Volvo’s strike cause many others to be laid off because their employers support Volvo re: fabrication and such that the plant doesn’t handle.
Reason it appeared unemployment went down was probably nothing more than 2000 Volvo workers (finally) going back to work and the hundreds of other laid off for a few months also going back. Certainly isn’t because there is any new business around here..... With only about 30K people in this county, you can imagine the impact that number of workers had on the numbers.

Everyone knows that we’re all the same and that Michigan’s unemployment rate is because of George Bush. Time for Governor Granholm to raise taxes again in Michigan. That’s progress (as in Progressive)!
She’s just trying to give Michigan the upper hand. Maybe she should visit Virginia.
Ok, so, just so we’re all clear, unemployment under 4% represents an economy with *full* employment, and is considered an overheating labor market. There just isn’t enough workers if the unemployment is so low.
Yeah right... Wait till Obama gets ahold of it... Unemployment will run rampant.... nationwide most likely average 8-10 percent... but you will all be told that is an OK rate... its to be expected I mean Bush screwed up so many things that its gonna take 20 years to fix it all...
Democrats will ride the hate Bush train well into the next decade... most Americans are ignorant enough to bye it too...
