There were no Marine units in Europe during WWII. All Marine units were in the Pacific.

I agree completely. I'm only saying lets get the facts out there verified (that he only had one great uncle and this guy was in the Navy) before we crucify him. I'm willing to bet that it was probably made up, but I want to see it verified before I'm willing to rip on him. Remember, just a short while ago we were all willing to believe that limo drivers story about having gay sex and doing drugs with Obama until the guy failed a lie detector test. I'm just saying, hold your fire, but keep your powder dry.

The campaign specified 89th Infantry Division, so they’d better hurry up and substantiate that. [of course, now they run into the tricky issue that it’s not up to Obama to release any service records, etc. - it involves the privacy of an 84 year old family relation who may not appreciate having been dragged into this - will Charlie Payne, who is alive IIRC, have to get involved in clearing this up or will he tell the Obama campaign to shove off?]

It would be incredible if they pulled that out of thin air or off the web, but then they have shown that they are not a very professional organization. Still, as critical as I am of Obama, I would be astonished if they released the specifics about 89th ID and a sub-camp of Buchenwald and “Charlie Payne” was never even there. That would be an unbelievable whopper, even for them. Surely they know at this point some people are going to keep checking, digging, pushing. They’d better try to put this to rest soon.

Obama is throwing people under the bus right and left - people who supported him and sacrificed for him. When this is all over, he is going to have to deal with the consequences. Of all the things he has done, throwing his grandmother under the bus did the most to disqualify him in my eyes - he is ungrateful and arrogant, concerned only for himself, and not to be trusted in ANY way shape or form. If his family can’t trust him, who can?

Do you have a link to that? The only reason I ask is because in the clip I saw he referred to his uncle and the press release said his uncle. I never saw anything that named the uncle. Another interesting thing to know would be is if Charlie Payne is indeed the only great uncle he had and if he is still alive. It would be interesting to hear him interviewed. For me, I don't care if my grandson was running for President or not, I would be upset with him if he distorted my war record or distorted anything I ever said to him.
