What Obama's campaign released via first link above states he served in the Infantry. I assume it's possible the records are wrong, or he changed branches. But I'm unaware of that as a standard practice. Perhaps it happened during WWII for manpower reasons? Otherwise, Obama's Great Uncle would seem to have done most of his marching and liberating while at sea.

Even if Obama isn’t lying and was told this yarn by family members, it shows how susceptible he is to B.S. It would be a shame if he were to start a war based on someone else’s lies.

The genealogy website says Charles W as well. His grandmother was from Augusta though, and Charles E was from there so unless they were cousins, I think his great uncle was Charles E. If not, this story will explode from mistaken on Buchenwald to outright lie. Unless of course the navy liberated the camp with an invasion from the Moselle River.

The Democrats flip flop over this every presidential election. In 1992 Bush's military service was not of issue and Bill Clinton's draft dodging was downplayed in the MSM. In 1996 Dole's military service was not of issue and Bill Clinton's draft dodging was downplayed in the MSM. In 2000 Gore's military service (and fine gun handling skillz) was contrasted against Bush's National Guard service. In 2004 Kerry's "heroic" military service was contrasted against Bush's possible AWOL activity (with no mention of the treasonous activities of Kerry immediately after his service, where he lied to Congress, met to negotiate with the enemy, and was a member of an organization that plotted to assassinate elected members of Congress). AND the Democrats had the b*lls to stand Kerry shoulder to shoulder with Clinton on the stump and say that Bush didn't have the military experience or honesty to be President. And this time around they are saying that years of captivity in a POW camp means you "didn't really" see the war. Also that you may have mental issues that could affect your leadership.
He was just using the uncle story to build up his street creds with the “typical white people”.
Notice that Obama never talks about his Kenyan relatives - except for a romaticized view of his father.

| The only camp liberated by the 89th was Ohrdruf. It was a slave labor camp not a death camp. Most of the prisoners there were Eastern Europeans, mainly Poles. Its only connection to Buchenwald was that it was a administrative satellite of that camp. The 89th subsequently headed south into Germany and Czechoslovakia missing Buchenwald. |

If Obama had ANY relative who helped liberate ANY German prison camp I’ll give him a pass. Whether it was actually a death camp, labor camp, or concentration camp seems to be a rather small nit to pick. Old stories you hear from the family are not the most accurate or reliable.
I know the websites say Charles W. I just see a Charles E from the same small town that Obamas granny grew up in, Augusta Kansas. I looked it up last night on kansas wwII website and just assumed it was Charles E.. Needs to be dug into though because Barry may be telling tall tales akin to Clinton ducking sniper fire in Bosnia. He may have just made this whole thing up as he did with much of the stuff in his “autobiography”
