Subway -- the multi-national fast-food sub-shop giant -- has shot themselves in the foot. Again. The goal of their latest promotion was to win the loyalty of parents of grade school-aged kids -- to increase market share, revenue and profits. It was supposed to be a simple exercise in business marketing and promotion.

Maybe have a homeschool division where the prize would be $500 in athletic equipment. So traditional schools (public/private) and home schooled kids both win.
I am looking on Quiznos website and can’t find out what kind of bread they have. Do you know if they have whole wheat?
I sent a courteous “Goodbye” email to the company’s customer service site, and I will hereafter spend my money at Quizno’s or Moe’s. Stupid Commies!
Thanks. Love your sig line.
How many people live in the Untied States? I can't even find it on a map.
Yah. Subway is not the best tasting sub by spades IMHO. Quiznos is definitely good. As is portabelly.
So they lose $500,000 worth of business in order to get a $5000 deduction? Who does their math? If the boycott was 100% successful,( I always assume most people are just talk), it could be much more than $500k. If 4 million home schoolers didn’t buy 1 sub for $5 this year, thats $20 million. Add to that any sympathizers, and you get a pretty big number. Now your talking real money.
With the number of homeschoolers that use the Y, that’s a great idea.
Regarding your concerns about the Subway contest that excludes home schools from contest eligibility, Scholastic and Subway apologize to all individuals who have taken offense at this. Our intention was never to make independent schooled children feel discriminated against or excluded from this specific promotion. Throughout the course of the year Scholastic runs a number of contests and sweepstakes that are open to all teachers and students. The eligibility of this contest in particular was solely put in place to award a large group of children with the grand prize of $5,000 worth of athletic equipment. We do however understand how home- schooled children could benefit from this type of prizing and will make sure eligibility is open to everyone in future promotions. We appreciate your feedback and will make sure a similar situation does not happen in the future.
They go on to say that all comments regarding this contest should be directed to Scholastic and they give that address. Since Scholastic works with schools and not homeschools, that might explain what was going on with this contest.
My homeschool support group has a basketball team that competes with other private school teams here in the Tulsa area and this equipment would be a welcome addition to our team!
One of players from our girls team got a full basketball scholarship to a local university this past semester...they pulled her out of the middle of her senior year of high school and started her in college on full scholarship!
Not all support groups are small...at one time our group had 150 families (as big as some rural districts here in Oklahoma) and just a couple of weeks ago we had 54 graduating seniors.
A clause saying “Homeschooled students must be part of a sports co-op.” or something to that effect would’ve been reasonable. Excluding them all together is just ridiculous.
We *always* have a person in charge of selling Scholastic items to our support group! Scholastic is a big resource for homeschoolers!
This is just astonishing.
You can’t please all the people all the time... I guess worrying with a promotion is a worthy goal..
Have fun and good luck with your teams.
I’m just amazed more than anything that anyone would think to exclude homeschoolers! It’s extremely common and widely accepted here in Oklahoma. I’m actually sitting here chuckling because I can’t believe anyone could be so ridiculous.
Go Jags!
(I don’t eat at Subway anyway...don’t care for it. I like Schlotzsky’s or Chick-fil-a.)
I guess I’m more amazed that anyone would be upset with a company just because they didn’t include them in some funky promo......
[(I dont eat at Subway anyway...dont care for it. I like Schlotzskys or Chick-fil-a.]
I don’t eat out often but like all of the above once in a great while. I respect Chick-fil-a for their stance on Sunday closings and holding to that in today’s push for the dollar.
But Subway has contacted some folks on our board, and said that they wouldn't exclude homeschoolers in any future policies.
We have a Subway just down the street. I guess this means I can't go in there and ask where the designated "Homeschooler's Water fountain" is??
Heh heh!
Sounds like the emails were successful in getting them to open their eyes. That’s a good thing. Most companies nowadays wouldn’t even bother to respond. It’s good that Subway did...
