The Liberty Memorial is the home to the only National World War I museum in the country. Anyone passing through the KC area, it is well worth spending a day there.

That's inspiring (even if strictly speaking against the rules). At age 16 he talked his way INTO the Service of his Country.

Great story for Memorial Day, too.

My gratitude for your service, Sir, and for that of all Veterans. The freedom I enjoy today to post on FreeRepublic came at tremendous cost, and is appreciated today and every day.

Correct. Not until 1924 did the federal government lay an unfunded mandate upon the states to keep track of births, deaths and marriages.

Both of my grandfathers were WWI veterans. It is hard to imagine that their entire generation is now almost gone.
