EL ALBERTO, MEXICO -- Gunshots ring out and sirens shriek, mixing with the ragged breath of muddy, panting humans. Suddenly, the full moon sweeping the ground like a searchlight reveals a disturbing scene: a group of illegal immigrants being handcuffed and led away by U.S. Border Patrol agents.
But the U.S. border is about 400 miles from this rugged municipal park in Hidalgo state, a three-hour drive north of Mexico City. The spectacle unfolding here isn't an actual border crossing attempt but a live simulation-adventure that attempts to give participants a taste of what it's like for the thousands of Mexican and other Latin American undocumented migrants trying to enter the promised land of el norte.

PING.
Where’s the BARF ALERT ????????????
Say what? A training ground to prepare border crossers on the finer points of evading US border patrol agents?
Nah, they couldn’t be doing that...could they?
Sounds alot like NTC or JRTC to me.
Been there, done that - T-shirt is long gone!
But you’re right. Contrast this to the piece that reported on congress-critters who had no idea there was a war going on along the border...downright scary.
However difficult it may be for people to cross the border illegally, it is most assuredly not anywhere NEAR as difficult as it should be.
The irony is that the border fence at the Mexican Infiltration Training Center (MITC) is complete and more functional than the "virtual" one Bush, Chertoff and McCain haven't built.
The Mexicans- doing the job that Bush, Chertoff and McCain refuse to do.
40 years from now there will be a US National Museum and a Federal Holiday commemorating the crossings. Probably will be on May 5th, to accommodate tradition.
The Museum will have an interactive display much like this park pageant, complete with searing heat, rattlesnake sounds, gun shots, Border Patrol manhandling and Coyote abuses.
It’s the least we can do to commemorate the daring hardships these folks endured in their quest for financial gain and to escape from an impoverished hell hole we captured 160 years ago.
Sad to say, you're probably right- like the Viet Cong Tunnels of Cu Chi. It's the McCain way to "normalize" with the enemy, after all. What a guy. The Manchurian Candidate slips his mask.
Disturbing? Heartwarming is more like it.
Hard to see it but I am playing the worlds smallest violin for the crimigrants.
I think we need an electric fence at the border, and we could use some solar panels to bear the cost of batteries to hold power and keep down costs down. The sun is hot enough down there..amazing what goes on at the border.
