MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama told Florida's Cuban-American community Friday that his Cuba policy would be based on "libertad" and freedom for the island nation's people.

Sen. Barack Obama speaks at a Cuban Independence Day event in Miami, Florida, on Friday.

"My policy toward Cuba will be guided by one word: 'libertad,' " he said, using the Spanish word for liberty at an event celebrating Cuban Independence Day in Miami, Florida.

"The road to freedom for all Cubans must begin with justice for Cuba's political prisoners, the right of free speech, a free press, freedom of assembly, and it must lead to elections that are free and fair," Obama said. "That is my commitment.

"I won't stand for this injustice; you will not stand

How savvy... he sprinkles his speech with Spanish. Sheesh, and I thought Hillary’s ebonics were pathetic. Anyway Mr Obama, how about right of free speech, a free press, freedom of assembly, and it must lead to elections that are free and fair for the USA!?

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think that our policy toward Cuba should be one of “freemarketing” the nation and that Obama’s ideas on this have some merit.

Ugh, I think I need a shower.

One is left to wonder if Obama left "free enterprise" or "free markets" implicit. Or does he admire those contrary aspects of Cuba?

To bad he seems innately opposed to "freemarketing" and "libertad" here in the USA.

"After eight years of the failed policies of the past, we need new leadership for the future," he said. "After decades of pressing for top-down reform, we need an agenda that advances democracy, security and opportunity from the bottom up."

Which eight years of Cuban policy were failed.  1961-1969?  Or 1993-2001?  For 50 years we've had the exact same policy with Cuba. Ten Presidents of the United States with ten administrations and one President of Cuba have been involved.  Castro is the common denominator here, not George Bush.

When Obama says we need to change our policy towards Cuba... I say No, no, no, no, no... We don't need to change our policy, Cuba does!

I heard his speech.... he didn't say anything.

He said that the policy of embargo hasn't worked to make the Cuban people free, so he'd talk to them and I guess make them see that they're wrong and then they'd let all the Cuban people live in a country with "rule of law", just like they do in Chicago.

this guy is so pathetic and is way out of his league.

You can see him just making sh%t up as he goes. Like a frat boy or law student just shooting the debate around the table.....

We're screwed....
