LOS ANGELES — Record crowds of immigrants — more than 18,000 in all — took citizenship oaths here Thursday, a showing credited to rising fees, a heated debate over illegal immigration and one of the brand-new Americans raising their hands.

In becoming a citizen, radio host Eduardo "Piolin" Sotelo was taking the advice he has frequently dispensed on the nation's most popular Spanish-language radio show.

"This is a new page in my life," the native of Mexico said as he was swarmed by well wishers and fans clamoring for a photo. "We have to make a difference."

Sotelo, who came to the country illegally 22 years ago in a car trunk, chronicled his own citizenship process as he urged fellow Hispanics to seek citizenship at a time when immigration is still a hot-button issue and a presidential election is underway.

Sotelo, the outspoken host of the Los Angeles-based morning show "Piolin por la manana," has used his syndicated soapbox to rally hundreds of thousands to march for immigration reform and encourage legal residents to become Americans. The show is aired in at least a dozen U.S. markets.

"Now we have one more vote to defend our rights," Sotelo said of his citizenship.

Sotelo went from collecting cans to working in radio but got fired because he was an illegal immigrant. He later got a work permit in Sacramento, where his radio career began to take off.

....Martinez said as he clutched a miniature flag in one hand and his citizenship certificate in the other. "I want to vote. It's time we take action to shape the way the country is being run."

New citizens hailed from some 100 countries, with the largest number, 7,770, from Mexico, followed by 1,882 from El Salvador and 1,477 from the Philippines

If he is citizen of the US now, why is he still "defending" the so-called "rights" of illegal aliens ???

What's with the "we" ???

Where's the pride in being an American citizen ???

Where I became a citizen, I cried all day...

I was so happy, proud, ad humbled by the idea that I was now a citizen of the greatest country in the world..

No one who comes to the country “illegally,” should be allowed to become a US Citizen.

Yes, that is strange....

The article says..

“Sotelo went from collecting cans to working in radio but got fired because he was an illegal immigrant. He later got a work permit in Sacramento, where his radio career began to take off.”

How did he get the “work permit” if he was in this country illegally ???

"I want to vote. It's time we take action to shape the way the country is being run."

This is damn frightening---an illegal who probably got citizenship with fraudulent documents is now intending to run a country built on the rule of law?

And this stupid sucker sees no problem with that.

Will McCain drop any concern he might of had for these people now that they are legal? He doesn't seem to care about citizens.

McCain ..... "the United States has treated Latin America as a junior partner rather than as a neighbor, like a little brother rather than as an equal....Latin America today is increasingly vital to the fortunes of the United States, and Americans north and south share a common geography and a common destiny. It is time to embrace this destiny for the benefit of all our peoples."

Direct to US voters from Juan and Hernandez's Reconquista propaganda machine.

The vote, buy houses with other peoples social security numbers, they drive, and jam all of our social services, and choke off our own medical facilities..

Bush and the Feds have made our borders and American citizenship all but pointless.

This piece of garbage is a CINO....Citizen In Name Only. Someone should clue this SOB in to the fact that if he goes subversive, the citizenship can be taken away!!!

“”I want to vote. It’s time we take action to shape the way the country is being run.””

If they don’t like the way we ‘run’ the country, stay in MEXICO! We don’t want to live in MEXICO!!!!! Once this guy entered illegally he should have NEVER been given citizenship.

“A Day in the Life of USCIS”- (Is this any way to protect our nation?)

by Mike Cutler, former INS agent

http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/DayinLife_050629.pdf (click here to see orignial document)

Some of the DAILY work of USIS according to their own document:

* Conduct 135,000 national security background checks

* process 30,000 applications for immigrant benefits

* Issue 7,000 permanent resident cards (green cards -PER DAY)

* Welcome 2100 new citizens.

* Welcome 3500 new permanent residents.

Does this look like we are not allowing enough “Legal” entries?

Good question....I wondered the same thing about Cesar Milan, The Dog Wisperer. He was brought in for $300 by coyotes and now has a green card. Whether or not the green card is now justified because of his job, he DID enter illegally and should not have the privilege of citizenship, IMO.
