Jim Webb's GI Bill passed the Senate today with a bipartisan majority, 75-22. Clinton and Obama were both there, but McCain is in California today on the fundraising trail.
Obama used the opportunity to once again tie his rival to the president.
"I respect Sen. John McCain's service to our country," Obama said on the Senate floor this morning. "He is one of those heroes of which I speak. But I can't understand why he would line up behind the president in opposition to this GI Bill. I can't believe why he believes it is too generous to our veterans. I could not disagree with him and the president more on this issue."
The McCain campaign responded by issuing a sharply worded and lengthy statement in the senator's name. McCain notes his support for an alternative to the Webb measure, but points out his own military service and points out Obama's lack thereof.

Hi MurryMom....
Sarcasm is the lowest form of whit.
You might like to invest in a Thesaurus for our entertainment.
“And I take a backseat to no one in my affection, respect and devotion to veterans. And I will not accept from Senator Obama, who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform, any lectures on my regard for those who did.”
Bingo! I love this statement. When the dems choose their candidate, I hope to hear a lot more of these zingers. After all, it’s almost as easy as taking candy from an infant.
Does Obama really think ANYONE is going to believe that McCain doesn’t care about veterans?
There are always exceptions if you really want to serve. Check it out. I did.
McCain’s response ran Obummer plumb outta ammo. Get ready for the race card Juan.
The problem for Barry O is that McCain and his team are very well schooled on media and how to work it. When the NY Times hit piece that alleged McCain had in improper relationship (read between the lines) with a lobbyist his crew went on the offensive and managed to make the Times look bad (I know, they do a good job on their own) even in some liberal circles.
McCain has a pretty good team working for him.
That is a wimpy smack, you have to note the Ike Turner smackdowns in the movie: What’s Love Got To Do With It./Just Asking - seoul62........
Have you ever seen the Peter Sellers 1979 movie "Being There?" Peter Sellers plays "Chance the Gardener" of a wealthy estate where he's the gardner and has never left the property until the owner dies. He's a dumb as a box of rocks and people he comes in contact with think he posses some worldly wisdom when he such things as "Spring is the best time to plant." Anyways, he ends up almost becoming president of the USA. Much like Obama.
You mean--- The Original Forrest Gump??
Nailed it!!!!!
Yep! That's it!
This is the first time McCain’s shown the aggressiveness, aimed at a DemonRat, that’s necessary to get elected. Barry Bozo’s head is on a platter McCain just handed to him. GO MCCAIN!!
AMEN!! That’s one of the biggest sourcs of our present problems.
Are you saying that Obama didn't have a choice about serving in the military before enrolling in college or before enrolling in law school? I'm not arguing that military service is a prerequisite for serving as President. Some of our worst presidents (Carter) served, and some of our best (Jefferson) didn't. But Obama, once again, displayed his stunning arrogance (and ignorance), and McCain called him on it.
this explains why Obama is the choice of the MTV and Hollyweird crowd, aka, the nonthinking crowd.
I wonder if McCain has figured out that his democrat friends aren’t really his friends. Look at the back stabbings that his lefty buddies have given him recently. He could be waking up.
Well said.
