Progress in Iraq is 'undeniable,' Bush tells troops
LA Times ^ | 5/22/08 | James Gerstenzang

The president could not have chosen a friendlier audience for a message that he has been trying for months to plant with the majority of the American public, which polls show stopped supporting the war long ago.

Bush addressed thousands of troops of the storied 82nd Airborne Division, some of whom returned from Iraq barely two weeks ago and others who are preparing for a fourth deployment this fall.

To fatigue-clad soldiers lined up in formation across a parade ground the size of a football field or more, Bush presented a point-by-point definition of the success he says is coming in Iraq, and on which he says the end of the war depends:

"Success will be when Al Qaeda has no safe havens in Iraq and Iraqis can protect themselves. Success will be when Iraq is a nation that can support itself economically. Success will be when Iraq is a democracy that governs itself effectively and responds to the will of its people. Success will be when Iraq is a strong and capable ally in the war on terror.

"When our country succeeds in Iraq," the president continued, "generations of Americans will be more secure."

He spoke on a sunny morning at the annual Division Review Ceremony, which was not held last year "due to deployment operations," the White House said. The nearly two-hour ceremony included a parade of thousands of troops that lasted more than 20 minutes, while the president and Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez, the division's commanding general, stood on the edge of the parade ground.

It’s worth noting that current U.S. fatalities in Iraq are at their lowest level of the entire war, and that Al Qaeda attacks there have gone to fewer than 1 per day...

"...which polls show stopped supporting the war long ago."

Horse feathers! Any poll that would ask me if I wanted the troops home today, of course I'd say yes. How about they ask a real question such as "Do you support the heroic effort of our Armed Forces in overthrowing one of the most brutal dictators since Hitler and Pol Pot."

Try that question you yellowed chicken liberal pollsters. You ain't goona like the results!

Does the media know this...Apparently not...People need to know that the lowest number of US troops have been killed this month since the war started....

Also, the lowest number of U.S. fatalities for the year to date. So it isn’t just this month, but the whole year so far that has the lowest U.S. fatalities.

An *honest* reading of such stats would leave two viable possibilities:

#1: that Al Qaeda has been defeated, and/or
#2: that our allied Iraqis are shouldering more of their self-defense burden

“Progress in Iraq is ‘undeniable,’ Bush tells troops”

This should have been said WEEKLY by the CIC and members of his administration since the very BEGINNING of the war, because THAT is the truth.

What a snide, condescending way for MSM scumbags to open the article!! Let's see, the jackals make sure people become discouraged with endless biased 'reporting' - then they boast about the results of their propaganda work in the lede of the story...... and insinuate that Pres. Bush only wants to go where there is a 'friendly' audience, rather than celebrating the greatness and goodness of the 82nd Airborne. I truly loathe jackals like these so-called 'reporters' -- they are on the side of our enemies.

Iraq, in years to come, will be an example for the rest of the Arab world. Saudis, Egyptians etc will want to have the political and economic freedoms and successes they see in Iraq.

Usually they wait until the second paragraph to turn a news story into an editorial. Looks like this guy just couldn't hold it back. Disgusting.

We are Americans.

We have spilled the blood of many of our people to protect freedom from many different dictators over the past hundred years.

We have sought no enslavement of the conquered, no confiscation of their property, nor abused their people.

We have elected leaders who we feel will act in the best interests of the US and of freedom loving people throughout the world. Americans will pay any price to defend our freedom, make no mistake about that.

Any enemies of the USA should try to comprehend where they would be today without the stability, humility, and prosperity the US has delivered to the world.

And we don't even really expect to be thanked.

Sincerely,

A proud American.
