Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin is catching grief for suggesting John McCains family history of military service makes the presumptive Republican presidential nominee unfit to be commander-in-chief.
Harkin, who has a history of embellishing his own military record, told Iowa reporters last week that McCains background as the son and grandson of Navy admirals creates a dangerous situation because he can only view the world through the prism of the military.
He has a hard time thinking beyond that, Harkin said, according to The Des Moines Register. I think hes trapped in that. Everything is looked at from his life experiences, from always having been in the military, and I think that can be pretty dangerous.
The paper also quotes Iowas junior senator telling reporters, Its one thing to have been drafted and served, but another thing when you come from generations of military people and thats just how youre steeped, how youve learned, how youve grown up.
Military service is not a foreign concept to U.S. presidents. Since Franklin D. Roosevelt, who spent seven years as assistant secretary of the Navy, Bill Clinton is the only president to have not served in some branch of the military.
McCain, who touts his family history on the campaign trail, was a Vietnam War pilot who spent five and a half years in a prisoner of war camp rather than accept the North Vietnamese offer to release him ahead of his fellow troops because he was the son of an admiral.

Yep...my mom was right...always “consider the source”....
And the question here is, will Juan McLame actually step up and slap this kind of destructive-psychoanalysis?
He could at least ask Harkin where he got his Psychiatry Degree and what qualifies him to render "remote" diagnoses!
Harkin is an even bigger hero now in the eyes of America’s enemies, aka, liberals.
Harkin would rather have a President who is friends with a terrorist who tried to blow up the Pentagon.
The Democrats are EVIL, there are no qualifiers needed for this statement.
...yet he has no problem with BHO being the son and grandson of followers of a religion that says to kill everyone not of that religion.

And Harkin’s complete lack of a brain makes him unfit to live.
Did you know that he was an honors graduate of the Joseph Goebbel’s School of Ethics?
I have decided to follow President Ann’s example:”You smear me with a lie; I’ll hit you so hard, that your children will be born sterile”.
We all know Hillary Clinton has military experience dodging bullets ...
Harkin is a democRAT.
What a pile of dung.
So when Bush was running, military service was everything...but now....
Man, Libs really are insane.
I’m not a McCain supporter, but his solution to this situation is simple and obvious. He should just fabricate a background to embellish his qualifications for President in Harkin’s eyes. Harking could certainly support that, and it wouldn’t be anything new for a Presidential candidate.
“We all know Hillary Clinton has military experience dodging bullets ...”
Thank you...you owe me a Coke since I just spit half of mine out. lol
Thank God for allowing Harkin to exhibit his IQ.
You are so right. This A-hole is another partisan
hack with the ego to go with it. Do you remember how
he reacted to the Paul Wellstone TRAGEDY? He waS LIKE
A TWO-BIT cheerleader in high school. how arrogant
people like him rhetoricalsises the Senate legislation
is another example of...need Republicans..more and more
as the nation needs patriots, not pimpacrats. JK
Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor
...who is that with Harkin & Kerry?....looks like “Red Danny” Ortega to me.
