Ted Kennedy: I'd like wife to take seat

Ted Kennedy has made clear to confidants that when his time is up, he wants his Senate seat to stay in the family - with his wife, Vicki.

Multiple sources in Massachusetts with close ties to the liberal lion say his wife of 16 years has long been his choice to continue carrying the family flame in the Senate. Kennedy won the seat in 1962; his brother John held it from 1953 to 1960.

"There's no question that he'd like Vicki to continue in his seat," said one Massachusetts Democrat with ties to the Camelot clan who spoke to Kennedy recently, before his health crisis.

"She's smart, and smart politically."

The 54-year-old Victoria Reggie Kennedy, a former hotshot Washington lawyer, is a Louisiana native and the daughter of a politically active judge.

She was hailed for holding the family together when John F. Kennedy Jr. was killed in a plane crash in 1999.

By favoring his wife, Kennedy, 76, is bypassing his late brother Robert Kennedy's eldest son, Joe, a former congressman.

I’m trying to remember, but didn’t Vicky’s brother get in a lot of hot legal trouble in New Orleans or some other Southern town ?

Damn, 46 years in the Senate.

Yup. He never spent a day in his life understanding how the average American lives.

In Massachussetts that is not “nepotism.” It is Royal Succession.

LOL. Talk about getting credit for nothing. Like, what were they going to do? Get drunk and go skiing?

Oops.

And to think that our greatest President, George Washington, had to be talked into it.

Beneath contempt. This family’s arrogance is unbounded.

Not to mention the fact he is worth about $500 million yet the American taxpayer has been PAYING him these last 46 years.
Just ain’t right.

You're right. The law was changed when John Kerry was running for president. Prior to this the Governor appointed a replacement to finish out the senator's term. The democrats didn't want Mitt appointing a republican so they changed the law.

When JFK left the senate to become president the Kennedy's had a family friend named Smith fill the senate seat for two years until Ted could meet the minimum age requirements and run for the senate.

There is going to be free-for-all for Ted's seat. The MA congressman are all going to run for the seat. The republicans might even put up a challenge.

He would win by Right of Succession unless he runs against another Kennedy who is closer to the direct line. I think that gets sorted out before the Successor is presented for adulation b the people.

The rules of succession are very clear on this...

If the seat is vacated by death it shall fall to the eldest legitimate male heir.

In the event that he adbicates or there is no legitimate male heir, it falls to the eldest legitimate female heir.

If no legitimate heirs, male or female, exist, it falls to the eldest legitimate brother.

If no legitimate brother exists, it falls to the eldest legitimate sister.

If no legitimate brothers or sisters exist, it falls to the eldest legitimate grand-child of the eldest legitimate male child.

If no legitimate male grandchildren of legitimate male children exist, it falls to the eldest male grand-child of the eldest legitimate female child.

If not legitimate grandchildren of legitimate children exist, it falls to the eldest male child of the eldest brother.

and so forth...

But under no circumstances does the wife succeed? It just isn’t done!

In massachussetts, when Kennedys are involved they do not have “elections.” They have Confirmations. Massachussetts, being technically part of the USA does go through the motions of a Vote but it has no actual effect on the Succession.

Nothing personal, but isn't that rather like the apathy the Jews sufered from when they were herded into those railroad cars and sent to the gas chambers?

just another example of the “entitlement” mentality - unbelievable.<<<

By favoring his wife, Kennedy, 76, is bypassing his late brother Robert Kennedy's eldest son, Joe, a former congressman.

Translation: the anointing goes to... my wife!

Arrrg. It was bad enough that after 46 years anchored to the Senate he had the audacity to support the candidate for change - CHANGE - and yet here it is, no surprise, politics as usual.

People have to be pretty darned thick to believe all of the bizarro rhetoric.

And the left hails a drunkard and a murderer as a “hero”. If that doesn’t tell ya how screwed up they are, nothing will.

Vickie's "politically active judge" daddy:

In 1992, Reggie was convicted of misapplication of funds of the Acadia Savings & Loan of Crowley, a thrift he founded in 1959 and which failed in 1987. The transactions allegedly contributed to the failure of the Louisiana Bank and Trust, which also failed in 1987. Reggie was board chairman of both institutions at the time. The questionable loans allegedly generated lucrative legal fees for Reggie's law firm, which also served as Acadia's general counsel [21-23].

So who are the other Kennedy's holding office in Massachusetts?

Don't get me wrong it's bad here but not that bad. Joe Kennedy Jr. couldn't even win a congressional seat against a sea of light weights. The dynasty is waning. After Ted the only one left will be his cocaine addicted Son Patrick holding political office. In Rhode Island I a may add.
