Suicide bomber blows up truck at Gaza crossing; no IDF soldiers hurt

A Palestinian truck bomber attacked a key border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel early Thursday morning, the Palestinian militant group Hamas said.

Army Radio reports that there were no injuries in the explosion at the Erez crossing on the northern end of the Gaza-Israel border.

A spokesman for the Islamic Jihad group said they carried out the attack in cooperation with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, an offshoot of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's more secular Fatah faction. Jihad described the attack as a successful martyrdom operation.

Sufa Crossing Closed After Attack on Erez, IDF Gunfire

(IsraelNN.com) The Sufa Crossing with Gaza was closed Thursday morning in the wake of a terrorist attack on the Erez Crossing. No IDF soldiers were hurt in the early-morning attempted truck bombing at the crossing, where humanitarian supplies are brought into the region.

IDF soldiers exchanged gunfire with Palestinian Authority terrorists at both the Erez and Sufa Crossings after the bombing, reported Voice of Israel government radio. The Sufa Crossing is another conduit through which humanitarian supplies are shipped to Palestinian Authority residents in Gaza.
