Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, on Friday is scheduled to meet with two Republican governors who have been prominently mentioned as potential running mates, according to Republicans familiar with Mr. McCains plan.
Charlie Crist, the governor of Florida, and Bobby Jindal, the governor of Louisiana, have both accepted invitations to meet with Mr. McCain at his home in Arizona, according to Republican familiars with the decision. One Republican said that Mitt Romney, a former rival of Mr. McCain for the presidential nomination is also expected to visit him this weekend. Mr. Romneys advisers declined to comment.

What you said!
No, you're not; I think it would be great but he doesn't seem to be on McCain's list. Too conservative for him, hmm?
Ex football player... probably a few things in his closet? what kind of family man has he been?
He needs to do some hard boiled thinking on this. I would like to know who Karl Rove thinks would be a good candidate.
Has anyone heard anything more about the so called Michelle Obama tape of her giving a anti USA sermon at their church some time in the past?
I can almost bet that Hillary will take her fight to the convention. And why shouldn’t she? No one has it wrapped up yet.
No, actually it’s the sound of an engine...a very specific person’s engine. Google it for enlightenment.
The President plays a lot more roles than to merely set policy. He is a role model for the nation. That’s why I would never vote for a Mormon, even if I agreed with their policies because it would be promoting a false religion.
Warren Jeffs did exactly the same thing that Joseph Smith did. And for that matter that Mohammed did. They all proclaimed to be prophets, they all claimed that prior scripture had errors and omissions. And that allowed them to overturn scripture and introduce their own social policies, so that they could create their own personal sex and power fest.
Mormonism has partially refined itself. It’s rejected the “eternal covenant” of polygamy. It has made small modifications in the objectionable parts of it’s scripture so many times that the current Mormon scriptures barely resemble the originals. And I hear they no longer dwell on many of the most objectionable teachings. So they have moved somewhat towards mainstream Christianity. But they still teach much error.

People, think.
The choice begins, and essentially ends, with Electoral Votes.
While you are spot-on about the EV situation, we ARE in fact thinking - but about something different. McCain is very liberal and many conservatives will not vote for him. A conservative, or even a possible one, on the ticket, could change some minds (mine included). Any conservatives in those states you mentioned?
>>
There are certainly possible candidates from those states who are more conservative than Obama, which is all that matters. The EV situation in Colorado, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan and New Mexico does constrain the choice to people who can bring those EVs to the table.
Of the choices discussed, only Romney can make a claim to help in one of those states, which are the only ones that will matter this year. Michigan EVs can be brought into play by Romney.
Is anybody actually surprised? More McNutcase brilliance from day to day.
Huckabee was inviting according to FOX. Said he “couldn’t make it”.

“Michael Steele of Maryland”
Steele was a loser in his home state. Just WHAT do you suggest he will contribute to the ticket, except [of course], “color”?
Memo to Mr. McCain:
This election _IS_ going to be “about color”, regardless of how distasteful that may seem to you (and to some here in this forum).
Since it is going to be that, you had best define your OWN “color”, and gender as well. Those who are disinclined to vote for a “person of color” or a “person of gender” already lean towards McCain. It would be insanity to risk losing their votes by demonstrating how “egalitarian” the party is by deliberately choosing someone who “doesn’t look like themselves”, regardless of experience or qualifications.
McCain should chose a white guy. It’s that simple.
A younger, but still experienced, white guy.
This is going to get the votes of the many “white guys” out there who are independent or even registered democrats - who don’t want to vote for Obama.
The WORST possible thing McCain could do would be to choose a black running mate, regardless of gender. It will reek as raw pandering and tokenism, and gain NO votes - not one. Blacks are going to be voting for Obama, anyway, at numbers which I predict will approach 95%. I predict that even 30-50% of _registered Republican_ blacks will vote for Obama. Wait and see.
I could write Obama’s campaign exhortation if the Pubbies run a black in the VP spot: “why vote for them? They put THEIR black guy in the back of the bus! Vote for me, and I’ll be the guy DRIVING that bus!”

I guess the logic would go: If you vote for the Dem, then that's one vote counted for the Dem, and one vote lost for the Repub.
If you do not vote for anyone, then that's one potential vote lost for both the Repub and the Dem. So at least mathematically, you wouldn't be helping either candidate in the second scenario.
“Palins problem, of course, is that shes from Alaska”
And a couple of others, as well:
First, she has virtually NO experience, LESS THAN Obama. What does she have to show - other than being female - that would qualify her through judgement and experience to be one heartbeat away from the presidency? Especially with a president McCain’s age?
Secondly (and I realize I may open myself to opprobrium here), she has four children to attend to, including a newborn who is handicapped. How is a mother in this position supposed to still BE a mother, and have the time and energy resources to be president as well? After all, isn’t this a conservative forum, where again and again and again and again I have read about the evils of feminism? And how it is all but impossible for a woman to “have it all?” If that’s the case, how can we expect Ms. Palin to “accomplish it all” as president and young mother at one time?
- John
Hadn't thought of it from that angle. John McCain and Token Black '08, huh? I was thinking more along the lines of JC Watts simply being a good conservative candidate, and that he could counter Obama's black victicrat/liberation crap pretty convincingly and from a position of authority. But you're probably right.
If it hasn’t been done already, can we get a FR poll going on these three?
