Iranians Would Welcome Airstrikes, Sources Say

As Barack Obama and John McCain thrash it out over how they would deal with Iran, voices from inside Iran are weighing in with an unusual message: If the United States strikes hard and fast, we will support you.

Emissaries from inside Iran have been meeting with Iranian exiles in Europe, the United States, and elsewhere in recent weeks to deliver this provocative message, which they claim comes from pro-U.S. dissidents at the upper-most levels of the regime.

“U.S. airstrikes must be powerful and sustained enough to break the myth of the regime’s absolute power and reveal the weakness of the leadership,” a former official who traveled outside of Iran recently said.

The United States should target the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards Corp, the offices of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and that of his predecessor and rival, Mullah Hashemi-Rafsanjani, Iranian sources say.

The goal should be to carry out sustained airstrikes over a 48-72 hour period that would “decapitate” the regime.

Such a strike would send a clear message to the Iranian people and to disgruntled officials throughout Iran’s faction-ridden government that the United States is serious about confronting the regime over its bad behavior in Iraq and is willing to strike the leaders responsible for that behavior, the Iranian sources argue.

There are 2 grandsons, Hossein (or Hussein) and Hassan, whose names are easily confused, though their stances on the regime are quite different.
Hossein (mentioned in the referenced article) was forced to flee Iran for a while for his own safety, after publicly speaking out against the regime on a number of occasions. He lived in Iraq for a while. If I recall, threats were made against his family and he was forced to return to Iran in order to ensure their safety - the regime wanted him back in Iran to face punishment. But his grandmother (Khomeini’s widow) stepped in and apparently convinced the regime to spare Hossein’s life.
Haven’t heard much about or from him in a while. (needless to say)

You have a good point...The US could easily mount a decapitation strike lasting 48 to 72 hours but what about the 150,000 or so Revolutionary Guards who survive?..There could be a military coup that would leave the Iranians even more helpless than they are now and then a bloody massacre could follow...Besides a quick strike against the Iranian government, we would need precision strikes to knock out their oil production facilities, that would break them economically, and the nuclear facilities need to be totally leveled..That cannot be done in one day...

The ordinary citizens need guns and bullets before the strikes occur plus a strong Underground to help fight the Guards, and to help out any operatives who may be there to help them; also to put in place a new government and to protect it...

Thank you for the ping FARS...

Also- thanks for the many good posts here...

But so ironic that we could think of taking out a country halfway around the world from us, yet we could not overthrow a dictator just 90 miles from our shores...There MUST have been an agreement between the US and Russia to allow Cuba to remain communist..

If I lived in Iran, I’d probably welcome airstrikes too.

Yep. War on Order, drive by shoot-em -up and let us take a hiuke so the "moderate" Iranians can take over? ( sarc.)

Screw that. If we come, we will be coming to take your nukes and then your oil, and not necessarily in that order!

Iran, you Jew Haters! ALL your oil fields are belong to US!

Get that straight, Muslim Meat!

I say let the Israelis have the privilege. After all,it's Israel that the 9th Century knuckledraggers in Tehran are threatening to wipe out.

Add to that that they'd almost certainly have to use nukes to do it (whereas we could probably do it without nukes)and you have a really sweet setup.

I'd love nothing more than to see mushroom clouds over Iran.
