Moderator’s note:This was the first real thread reporting the news today. It was locked for reasons that should be obvious to everyone by now. The Moderator who locked it is the level-headed Mod. I am the arbitrary and capricious Mod. If you choose to martyr yourself I am happy to oblige.

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.

Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

Source? I know quite a bit about brain tumors and I've been following the Kennedy story throughout the day. Your comment is the first and only one that has referenced melanoma. Every other story has described glioma, an aggressive primary cancerous tumor. A primary tumor means that it did not metastasize to the brain from another site. A glioma originates in the brain and grows very quickly.

Kennedy has apparently had surgical (or needle) biopsy, per Fox News radio and other outlets. If his doctors have already given a prognosis, odds are the MRI was conclusive enough to say whether the tumor is primary or metastatic.

True, there are some educated guesses involved, but in this case, it looks very bad.

You DO know Sen Biden also had a brain tumor years ago. He was fortunate that it was operable. Sen Kennedy doesn’t sound like he has the same good fortune.

No. I did not know that. That cartoon is based on how stooopid he is, not what his medical condition was.

Strange

I’ve never felt any great fear of dying

You live your life in an honest way and still many will find faults with you

An obcessive fear of a natural death is something I cannot comprehend

I understand, but would have been better with just about any other Dem Senator.

Yeah, we need him to obstruct some ANWR legislation and a few judicial nominees.

Joking aside, this is a pretty bad way to go. I'd like to see him get better and stop being such an idiot on everything.

The Pope says he's not worthy of Communion, due to his abortion stance. Ouch.

Yes, you’ve told me that before.
There will always be fault-finders, they are sometimes the ones at fault.

I wonder how long this has affected his reason. It might account for some actions

I say this with all due respect, of course...

Dear Lord
Sen. Kennedy is ill. Touch him, I beseech Thee,
with the healing grace of Jesus Christ and make him well.
You gave him life and You have the power to renew his life.
We put him in Your kindly and loving hands, knowing that no harm can come to him while in Your care,
whether on earth or in heaven.
I believe in Thy power to heal the sick. Through faith, the
tremendous healing force of God the Creator re-creates.
I hold this Child Yours up to Thee and humbly ask that You will
lay Your hands upon him and restore him, even as
You did to those about whom we read in the Bible.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, and
You, Dear Lord, can give new health and strength to our dear one.
This we humbly and earnestly request in Jesus’ holy name.
Amen.

In 1917, there were mystic events at Fatima, Portugal -- ironically in the Cove of Irene or Cove of Peace.

The three children were given a vision of hell, which they claimed was so terrifying that if they had not already been promised heaven before and was in the presence of someone from heaven, it was have literally scared them to death.

After reading that and meditating on that, I do not want any soul to go to hell -- it is just that horrible of a place.

The children was shown this vision os that they would not only pray for needy souls but also make sacrifices for needy souls.

Even though they were children, they did exactly that.

We should pray for the conversion of sinners -- Senator Kennedy being one of them. If one is terminally ill, does it help to pray for a speedy recovery? I think the serenity prayer applies here: accepting that which must be.

And we should pray for people like Jim Robinson.

It might be possible with prayer for Jim Robinson to be cured. Certainly the founder of EWTN was miraculously healed.

I just will put prayers for Jim Robinson ahead of those of Senator Kennedy -- not out of prejudice -- but the fact that with the age of the senator and his past drinking problems, this situation might not be reversible.

However, it is possible that there might be hope for Jim Robinson.

They are both in God's capable hands!

Prayers for him to repent and make a good confession and turn his life around, before it’s too late.

No strangers prayed for him.

You do not know that. Many people say prayers for all the sick, lonely and forgotten in their prayers every night. I would be willing to bet that he was prayed for by thousands of strangers.

Prayers for Ted Kennedy, his family, friends, and the country.

He’s facing tough times, I hope things go well for him.

I suspect that this was revealed to him during the diagnostics for his “carotid artery surgery” a month or so back, and they ( he and his staff) decided to say nothing, to ride it out until after the election. Events forced their hand, though.
