Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term

US President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran in the upcoming months, before the end of his term, Army Radio quoted a senior official in Jerusalem as saying Tuesday. [A US Navy aircraft carrier.]

The official claimed that a senior member of the president's entourage, which concluded a trip to Israel last week, said during a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action was called for.

However, the official continued, "the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice" was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic, for the time being.

The report stated that according to assessments in Israel, recent turmoil in Lebanon, where Hizbullah de facto established control of the country, was advancing an American attack.

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not holding my breath waiting for the U.S military to stop Iran.

A belated welcome to FreeRepublic.com.

OPINION:

As for attacking Iran, I’ve seen absolutely nothing online to suggest that this rumor is true.

There’s so much deliberate misinformation out there, and it’s out there for good reason. This requires Iran’s forces to keep guessing and remain on high alert. This mind game takes a toll on the military and ultimately on the leadership of the country. However, I do believe that this administration (save Rice) are serious about not letting Iran get nukes on their watch.

Amen to that.

It is normal for there to be no major military action to be taken by the United States during a presidential election year.

Wilson campaigned for peace in 1916, Roosevelt in 1940 etc.

We could get a minor pin pricker on Iran (Gulf Of Tonkin type fight) like occurred in 1964 with LBJ saying he was the man of peace and Goldwater was the warmonger.

What would “the Messiah” say about that????

Note to Israel: Don't wait for us.

Sigh.

Well it's possible. Bush isn't going to get a Palestinian state for his legacy. A successful (note: it must be successful, as in destroying nuclear capacity) bombing or missile raid on Iran would be a feather in Bush's cap, as long as it doesn't leave us needing to move thousands of US troops into the country for ages.

Other possible Bush legacies:

-He did keep us from suffering another major terrorist attack. This is his best legacy. He upset al Qaeda.
-He kept us from socialism for another 8 years.
-He made a lot of friends in Mexico.
-He made a lot of friends in Saudi Arabia.
-He gave the Europeans something to feel superior to.
-He finally found his veto pen, then lost it again. Look under the desk, it's down there somewhere.
-He successfully married off one of his gorgeous daughters. The best one is still available.

Wait until POTUS Obama deploys troops in the buffer zone but facing Israel so as to ‘protect’ the palis. He could and imo would.

He'd just encourage the UN to continue their good work in the region.

I agree that is and should be their primary focus. From what Ive read they are pretty well sure Iran has been responsible for quite a few of our casualties in Iraq, if that is the case Im all for bombing the hell out of them.

I think he would commit US troops in Blue Helmets as a sign to the arab world that we no longer support Israel. That would open the gates of hell.
