BAGHDAD (AFP) US President George W. Bush has apologised to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki over the shooting of a Koran by an American soldier near Baghdad, state television announced on Tuesday."The prime minister received an apology from US President George W. Bush on the incident of shooting of a Koran by a US soldier," Al-Iraqia television said.
US military authorities in Iraq have apologised to the local community west of Baghdad where the staff sergeant fired at the Koran during shooting practice on May 11.
The unidentified soldier, who pumped bullets into the Muslim holy book and wrote an expletive inside, has since been expelled from his unit and sent home.

He’s as big a whip as his daddy.
What the hell happened to this guy?

Should have had a terrorist holding the book close to his chest, while shots were taken.
I believe they were at a range, and Iraqi soldiers were the ones that cleaned up the targets, at least, that’s what I heard.
No riots yet? Those people get more upset about a US GI shooting a Koran than they do about terrorrists shooting their children.
Maybe, but our government funds works of art such as the “piss christ” and a painting of Mary with cow crap on it. I heard this story this morning and trembled with anger. Bush absolutely sucks.
It was either apologize for the actions of one soldier who disobeyed orders with his ill-advised stunt, or make the situation more dangerous for all of the troops and other Americans abroad. I’m sure it was an extremely unpleasant call for President Bush, but obviously it was the right call to make in terms of our national interests.
I wonder what McArthur would have done had a soldier gotten caught desecrating a Japanese holy book, or the like, during the occupation of Japan. I’m thinking I would not have liked to have been that soldier.
Where you been? Bibles and white people can be desecrated, spit on, despised and put down at all times, any situation. It’s the new political correctness. ;)
I humbly apologize to you and the German people for the despicable act of our soldier that shot "Mein Kampf". I can assure you that it was an aberation and will not ever happen again. The soldier and his family have been severely reprimanded.
Your humble servant,
President Franklin D. Roosevelt
Exactly. I don't think that this rises to the level of a Presidential apology.
W needs to apologize for not securing the southern border first.
I suspect the armchair crusaders cheering the undisciplined scum want that to happen to slake their other-peoples-blood lust.
“Lets not forget the destruction of Josephs Tomb in the West Bank city of Nablus and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem when the Palisimians defiled and occupied this holy and sacred Christian site for a month.”
I think you meant “Palisimians”, not “Palistinians”.
I fixed that typo for you.
;-)
“Is that what we’re doing? Relying on Muslims to assist in the defeat of Islamofascists? Not working too well”
Sure it is. For example, we pinpointed Zarqari’s location with help from Jordanian agents. Plus, we have military bases spread out all over the Muslim world. Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Turkey, ect...This gives us much more logisitical abilities in dealing with threats in the region.
“Bush is a chump because he will never accept what any sensible person anywhere in the West can see: the war is with Islam. “
This is the same propaganda nonsense that Bin Laden is spouting. Our troops are fighting side by side with Muslims against radicals like al-qaeda and Iranian backed militias.
totally agree. Getting his pals killed is no joke. Anyone who disagrees, can do this in Baghdad’s main square once our troops come home.
Oh, and don’t expect us to rescue you. Being stupid has consequences. You wouldn’t want someone shooting a bible in a Texas small town either.
grab a rifle and head to Iraq...and do whatever you want once our people leave. Show your bravery
