Here is the data that is the basis of the analysis:

I agree. I think they've been secretly working behind the scenes for decades and are only now showing their true colors cause the baby boomer's (who would fight them) are dying off...

Respectfully, the generation dying off is the parents of the baby-boomers. The boomers themselves are in power now. They aren't fighting this.

On balance, McCain is to the right of how Nixon governed.

In 2000, I described George W. Bush as "the 3rd most conservative Republican to be nominated for the Presidency in my lifetime" -- after Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan. For what it's worth, I'll stand by that description.

And McCain is clearly not to the right of George W. Bush -- he spent much of the Bush administration harrassing him from the left.

Maybe, McCain is to the right of Nixon. But given McCain's history of opportunism -- not unlike Nixon's -- it's hard to say how or where.

Myth of the RINO? It's not a myth . . . I've got a picture:

What does this mean? It shows that RINOs and DINOs exist largely as mythology.

Good point. But I don't think people are going to pick up on it any time soon. There's always some issue where a party is divided, and those in the minority on that issue are going to become known as renegades, even if they agree on most of the others.

“He also shows the parties in their TRUE COLORS, namely, blue for ‘Pubs and red for Dhimms. Very refreshing! “

LOL. Yes, a welcome change! The ‘true blue’ patriots versus the ‘leftist reds’.

Evaluation criteria such as this are fundamentally flawed. According to these scales, the political left/rightness of a politician is based on how they vote on legislation; but the left/rightness of the legislation is based solely on whether it was introduced by a Republican or a Democrat. It’s just a big circle.

He's right, the Republicans don't compromise...they capitulate.

The other thing RINOs refuse to do is exercise power. They had a chance to use the nuclear option to get some good judges in, but . . no backbone. Now, we lose, again.

x-Ring Aimhigh. We could have had Janice Rogers Brown on the SCOTUS.

It frustrates me that they refuse to even confront the demagoguery of the CLAM’s (Congressional Left, Academia, Media), seemingly in some futile hope that we will eventually win them over.

I realize that I’m not being germane to the article, but it does tie in somewhat.

If you think McCain = Obama you have another think coming. This kind of talk is scurrilous and dangerous. At worst McCain is a centrist. If you want a real horror show that would make us nostalgic for Carter, sit out the election. People have only themselves to blame for the lack of good choices but someone will serve as President from 2009 to 2013. Get used to it.

I am so sick of this.

1) Had you clicked through to the link, you would have realized that it was a typo. I meant RS McCain who happens to be a cousin many times removed to the Senator. Yes he is critical of his "crazy cousin John" but he is a different man.

2) I am still on the fence to be honest but every time someone offers even a little criticism true or otherwise, the cult of McCain rushes out of the woodwork to attack. Read the critique at the link and rebut it or not but attacking the person that offers a meager link to possible criticism without addressing it insane.

Boy the level of discourse here is sinking...

I’m a member of the CFR—Conservative Former Republicans. We were a part of the GOP, then we gained control of it, then we lost control, and the party has gone back to the country clubbers. Having been in charge, and knowing that we are right, we are not willing to go back to being a barely tolerated but mostly ignored faction of the party. We will form our own party if the GOP no longer is the best vehicle for advancing conservatism. If it has essentially thrown in with leftism, then we will have to go elsewhere. This is the year when that tension between the parts of the party came to the fore, and the liberals (better described as socialists who love gradualism) have won.

VetsCoR Founding Ideals

VetsCoR was founded in 2002 because the original members believe, as did our Founding Fathers, in individual Freedom and Liberty, with the individual solely responsible for his or her life. The vision of the Founding Fathers of this great nation was one of free men and women, pursuing life, liberty, and their own vision of happiness, constrained only by their responsibility to do no harm to others.

To this end, the Founders wrote one of the most important documents in the history of mankind! Wisely, it specifically limited the role of centralized government and maximized the power of the individual to control their own destinies - free from the dictates of an elite ruling class. That document is the United States Constitution.

Over the past 100 years, and particularly since the 1960s, the vision of America changed dramatically. Since that time, we constantly hear of another “American” vision, which is a vision of control of every aspect of our life and society by a self-anointed elite. In other words, SOCIALISM is now defined by some as an “American” vision. This is not only wrong, this “vision” of America is antithetical to Americanism. If a person believes in central control of everything they are in fact, UNAMERICAN.

At all times, and in all places where socialism has been tried, it has failed, costing hundreds of millions of lives and untold suffering to billions of people. Indeed, our own first experiment with SOCIALISM was at the Plymouth Colony in the 1600’s. This colony was almost completely wiped out before the leader of the colony changed course and allowed freedom and private property to flourish.

In the over two centuries that have past since the founding of this great nation, her sons and daughters have fought, and many have died, to free the people of other nations from tyrants and dictators of all stripes.

VetsCoR is determined to honor those dedicated Americans and their Oaths by restoring the Constitution to its original intent, as our Founding Fathers believed to be the right path a nation should follow.

Those interred forever in the hollowed grounds at Arlington National Cemetery and at National Cemeteries across the country and around the world would be saddened to see how often their dedication to their Oath has often been for naught. Power hungry politicians and political parties have so misused and abused our Constitution for their own personal and political gain, it's become clear they have lost sight of the wondrous vision our Founding Fathers believed in; fought for; and died for; - a free non-intrusive Nation of limited government.

We, who believe in that "vision", are honor bound to take up the battle where our fallen Military heroes have left off. We owe it to their memory and our own future to return our government to the basic principles that so many sacrificed for and made our Nation an example that that so many peoples of the World yearn for.

It can be done. Our heritage demands it. Please join us.
