Cases for seven children from one family, five from another and at least two fathered by polygamous sect leader Warren S. Jeffs are among those set for court Monday as the next phase begins in the largest child welfare action in United States history.
“Are their unusual religious beliefs alone a sufficient reason to take their children away?”
Apparently.
“Us keyboard commandos will have mostly nil impact if any on the outcome.”
You are right about that. The dye is cast; the kids are destroyed in one fell swoop. Constitution be damned. And there is nothing we can do about it except watch and weep.
I would agree that in some instances they are over the line. The problem for me is that there are also instances where children do need someone to come to their aid.
You and I agree on there being a serious problem. When they do go over the line, they should be taken to task for it in no uncertain terms, not forgiven because they ‘supposedly’ meant well.
We are a nation of laws and Constitutional protections.
Most people grasp the difference between government overstepping its bounds and the clear recognition of danger threatening society's helpless members.
If there was a truck bearing down on a baby on the highway with its parent standing idly by, I hope that a concerned citizen would grab that child from harm. Would you grab the child, or wait for the parent to come to its aid?
Geeze! A simple blood test for drug screening should have been enough.
Have you noticed, that when there are deaths or very serious injuries of children, that it is reported that relatives, friends, and neighbors have made **many** reports to CPS?
CPS is completely out of control!
That’s an interesting observation. I hadn’t thought of it from that angle. Interesting...
Yes, I’d say it is a program that is very problematic.
You really need to watch agencies like this. Once an “It’s All for the Children” effort gets going, folks sign on blindly no matter what it does. That is dangerous.
Thanks for your perspective.
