Cases for seven children from one family, five from another and at least two fathered by polygamous sect leader Warren S. Jeffs are among those set for court Monday as the next phase begins in the largest child welfare action in United States history.
“Some attorneys are outraged by identical family service plans crafted by Texas Child Protective Services for each child.”
Therein lies the problem. I thought we lived in a country where the Constitution was followed . . . silly me.
“She said some disputed minors have been questioned during the past week by CPS and Texas Rangers without approval of their attorneys. The questions appeared aimed at building criminal cases and centered on ages and relationships among household members, she said.” - “It is an absolute constitutional atrocity,” she said.
I don’t care what your religious affiliation is; I don’t care who you choose to hang out with - the state should not lump you into a big group and decide to treat you the same as the person standing next to you. Isn’t that what they did to the Jews - loaded them onto trains - separated families? You are a Jew; you cannot stay with your mother because your mother is not fit. This case makes me literally sick to my stomach.
I’ve not been a big fan of the way the authorities have handled this mess. Here we are six weeks on, and with every evil thing imaginable being charged in the media, I haven’t seen one person charged with a crime in court yet.
They went in on “suspicion” brought about by a hoax. The alleged abuser wasn’t even there. The way they rounded up all those kids and mothers - then lied to the mothers in order to separate them from their kids - then sorted out the kids the way you separate your dirty laundry - then decided to let only babies under 12 MONTHS stay with their mothers and shipped the rest off to foster homes all over the state of TX - I mean, is this my America? By the way, the state had to admit it made mistakes in age labeling the two women who had babies. What other mistakes have they made?
I don’t hold out much hope for a fair trial for the moms and kids. CPS has pretty much decided these mothers are not fit to breed. Meanwhile, the men who apparently were abusing/molesting little girls are walking around free as birds.
I agree, the media charges are very serious- and supposedly the Texas authorities have been investigating the FLDS for four years, with an informant. Texas even rewrote some of their laws with this group in mind. So where are the criminal charges?

Not to mention the public lynch mob “without the balls to buy the rope”. If I could only remember who it was I owe that quote.
Me too!
We’ll find out over time, after the lives of these people are screwed up in order to ‘fix’ things. This is going to turn out to be another case where public officials are going to be counciled not to repeat what took place here. Despite that, I’ll be surprised if the government EVER admits to having done things wrong here.
So far, you’re right on target. You would think the men would have been removed from the farm, but I guess that would have been too invasive.
We mustn’t be too demanding. The authorities associated with this case have handled this perfectly you know. We wouldn’t want known child abusers, rapists etcetera, to be taken off the street too quickly.
I hear ya.
Many reside here on Free Republic, sadly.
As a child I spent 8 weeks in an orphanage. It was due to the illness of my mother and my father placed my brother and me there while she recuperated.
I testify ( from personal experience) that for the children snatched from their families this is a horrifying ordeal. I feel so sorry for the children. They are only people, so far, who have been incarcerated and punished cruelly....and these kids have committed **NO** crime.
Horrible!

Arresting the men would have demanded **real** evidence. But...The CPS can and does snatch children from their parents every day, throughout America, on mere rumor. The CPS-Brownshirts are out of control ( especially out of control of the Constitution.)
I find it horrifying that it takes far less evidence to take away children and terminate a parents’ rights than to put a man in jail.
This is sickening. We have laws and a Constitution, follow them.
These kids should not be questioned with a lawyer present.
Also, waiting for the anti-mormons to say I support child abuse. So those so inclined please refrain from attcking me, just take your meds.
I keep searching for the word “alleged” in these stories. Confessed killers have their charges couched in “alleged” terms by the press. Why don’t these people deserve the same?
You got the Sill Me" correct, taking an attorneys per trial, out side of court, statement as fact.
When it is nothing more than grandiose posturing.
The children are not subject to a criminal complaint, they have committed no crimes. So on what bases is questioning barred.
There is none, the attorney is blowing smoke.
