Now, the only way to look at the Mexican thing is that so many of them have illegally moved here that any attempt to increase legal immigration to pick up the supply of newly minted PhDs from Asia we need is doomed to fail.
Not only do the Mexicans not increase productivity in the high tech sectors, their presence deprives us of acquiring those who can do so.
They have to be sent back home so that our industrial and agricultural sectors have an incentive to develop more automation. They also have to be sent back home to make room for the guys who can develop more automation.
It's a very simple equation. Frankly I am surprised that supposedly smart guys in the NAM, Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau Co-op, and other major institutions representing productivity seem unable to understand it ~ unless, of course, their motive is simply to have a large number of cheap lawn mowing guys and inexpensive bed warmers around.
Fact is immigration is a loser. How did Tancredo do with it? Most Americans understand that cheap labor is a necessity, like cheap fuel.
